Galaxy Note 8

The screen burn is scary. I use waze almost daily and also for a return, Jhb / Dbn trip, which happens at least once a month.

I guess I'll have to use my old S4 for navigation from now.

I was a bit worried when so many owners started complaining about screen burn-in after a short while.
I've had mine since before the official local release and there's nothing....... yet.
 
The burn-in issue is luck of the draw I guess. Last time I experienced it was on my Galaxy S2.

I hope it does not happen on my Note8, I usually use my car's built-in navigation system, but when I need to know live traffic e.g. if I am rushing to work and need the quickest route, I use Waze, so we'll see.
 
So I am back to using the thin Samsung case that came with the Note8

After having played with the P20 Pro and Fanie 's S9+, my Note8 was feeling super bulky in its Incipio case.
 
I'm seriously considering rooting my Note8 since I can't change its region. I bought the phone for all its features but then some are disabled like Oxygen saturation.

I don't want to flash roms, only need to enable stuff that's disabled.

Do what you feel is best for you. I'm sure Rooting opens a whole new world of possibilities with this hardware.

The only reason I do not Root is:
1. Laziness
2. Lack of time and patience
3. I would go Bananas on Mods and have a phone that barely works

In varsity days I used to Root my phones as I had so much time, and then regret it when I am in the Club for example and want to take a pic and BOOM Camera not working, lol, or a random reboot due to a mod conflicting with something or I have forgotten to load GApps, good times.

What you are saying is very true but I don't plan on flashing roms. I just want all the features that's been disabled.
 
I see oreo is available on Vodacom for ota update haven't installed it yet will wait when I get home
 
I really love the all black theme that I'm using with Substratum. Using substratum on Oreo is just too much effort for me personally.

I'll hold off on the update for now.

Will wait patiently, i normally root and start playing with different ROMS when a new Note has been released and we get a taste of it's new software and features. By then i also only have a few months left on my contract so i feel i have a bit more freedom to try different things with my "old" phone. But yeah agree, one of the reasons i haven't rooted yet is laziness... also haven't seen the need yet.

Ohhh i see i have an option to upgrade! Downloading OTA as we speak :) So never mind waiting patiently crap :)
 
How's everyone finding Oreo so far? I am not seeing much different, except the emojis and the whole Notifications thing when you long press an app icon, that is quite cool, as it shows a slight preview of the notification which is great. Going to watch some videos to see what the major stuff is.

Overall it's a nice incremental update, I am just happy to be on a post Jan2018 Security patch as now that covers the whole Spectre and Meltdown situation. :)


This update for me is certainly not worth having to go through the trouble of flashing a whole ROM and doing a Factory Reset, if anyone was thinking of doing that to get it.... Although I am sure us Vodacom peeps are the very last to get it at this point

Hope they start being fast with the Security Updates now.
