I'm feeling a bit irritated with Samsung tonight, so I just shot of this missive to Samsung ZA:

I sold my Iphone 4 and my Ipad 2 & replaced them with a Galaxy Note & Tab 7.0 Plus in the last 6 months.

I was very disappointed to find that neither of these units (Note purchased in Nov 2011 & Tab 7.0 Plus purchased Mar 2012) had the latest Android OS, viz. Android 4.0 or ICS.

This OS update has been rolled out in Europe already in March. No sign or indication of it happening in ZA.

Frankly, the lack of urgency shown by Samsung to provide a quality experience to its customers is, to say the least, disappointing.

To compound matters, I''ve read horror stories of a bug in Samsung''s firmware, which in certain situations cans destroy the Galaxy Note. Apparently, my Note is endowed with this inherent fatal flaw.

Frankly Samsung, I''m fed up with you already. When I owned Apple devices, the IOS updates were rolled out almost simultaneously. Samsung has been sitting on this firmware update from Google since mid-2011 and it sucks.

I need you to know that I have made the decision that my next phone/tablet will be manufactured by Google because:

1. I will receive OS updates about a year before Samsung rolls them out

2. I will get the pure Android OS and not the bloated Samsung UI which basically destroys the Android developers vision.

Sincerely.

With you there. Jelly Bean is already upon us but Samsung still struggles to get ICS out. Pathetic.

Google is doing a great job with Android but it is immensely frustrating how the OEM's f_u_c_k it up. Seriously. I, like many others, have been forced to go the custom rom route where we battle with bugs and erratic behaviour all the time. We live with this because we want the great stuff Google is pushing out but the OEM's fail to give us. This may end up destroying Android. Google needs to build a strong brand of its own that it has full control over so that we can drop these useless OEM's.

The only OEM that seems to work hard to serve its clients properly is ASUS. The rest are useless.

Had iKak dude. Would rather put up with OEM k@k than that.

EDIT: Apple hardware is great. Just the k@k that runs on it that puts me off.

Ditto, been there, done that, burnt the t-shirt. If I could forget I bought an iKak I wouldn't, you cannot learn from your mistakes if you cannot remember what they are.

iOS feels soooo outdated compared to ICS. Apple should have done far more with iOS Sicks.

You're lucky - you know what ICS looks like. Unlike the other 93% of Android users...

Galaxy Tab 10.1, Asus Transformer, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2, Desire HD and old HTC HD2... All ICS. Just got to do it yourself :)

Nike and Android should get together. JUST DO IT YOURSELF.

Just making neighbourly conversation of course, all in good spirits. Cheers fellas. :)

I too am getting rather uptight about this software update thing... I mean seriously, why are we always the last country to get the update....? Samsung might release the firmware, but it's our stupid network providers that take their own time to approve it and send back to Samsung to release.... I'm not too sure how Samsung deals with new firmwares, if they just send it at one time to all the country's network providers, and once they receive confirmation, they release through Kies....? I don't know, but we should blame Samsung SA and our network providers. Especially with a top-of-the-range device like the Note... We should see updates come through at most a month after it's been released. I mean seriously, how long does it take to test a firmware and to approve it......?

This is South Africa dude, our technicians are morons, the probably spend the first 6 weeks looking for the computer and another 2 looking for the on button only to realize they forgot to get a phone to actually test on.

I say we should all rally together and arange mailbox flood. Setup a fixed letter and each one of us nail each provider on helopeter all at the same time, even if we are not one of thier clients. Show them we mean business maybe even knock a few of them to the top of HPs complained about companies list.

That's just it... The network providers believe that we must just accept the way they work, which is not on.... What happens in other countries...? Network provider starts giving issues, the end user goes elsewhere.... Why doesn't that happen here, because 99% of South African mobile users are sheep, follow the leader even if it means they get a bad deal.... It's only us 1% that will take matters into our own hands and flash our devices so that we can get the updates as promised.

I tell you, when ICS was release over Kies for the S2, I was so sick and tired of working with ICS, I didn't even care about it... I think it took me 2 weeks to load it, and it wasn't cause I wanted to, it was cause I wanted to sell it, and in case the warranty is needed by the new owner.... That's how sloppy our network providers are, they are useless until they see you taking them for a ride, and then they wanna get all up in your business with the law and this and that.... It's just a waste on time in my eyes....
