Galaxy S battery life?

I have the Galaxy for 3 days now. Love this phone. Though last night something strange happened. The battery was half charged so I expected it to last another day. Went to bed at 11pm with it half charged. This morning it was flat! Woke up an hour late as well because the alarm never go off. I had no applications running and the screen was in standby mode (off). So I don't see how it could've run flat through the night, as yesterday, it ran the whole day without using much of the battery.

Maybe someone else has had this happen to them? Should I think about swapping it out for another one?
 
Rather disable what you don't need.

I have an HTC Desire and the battery life was exceptionally poor until I disabled stuff like the GPS, Wi-fi, Screen brightness down to 25% instead of 50%.

I've also found that turning off background data gives me at least 50% more out of my battery. My phone used to struggle to make 12 hours with heavy usage, now it can make it 24-36 with similiar usage and probably longer if I don't browse the internet or play games and music.
 
Something is running on your phone. I went to bed last night with 37% battery, woke up with it on 36%. I have Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS all off. No running apps in the background.

Most likely you installed some app which is running in thru background. Install some taskmanager and check

Check in the battery usage menu. It'll tell you what process is consuming so much battery power.

There is a bug in the calendar if you synch with exchange. It goes into an infinite loop and uses 100% battery. Check if that is the case. It was with me :)
 
I upgraded my desire to 2.2 and that solved most of my battery loop issues. it now lasts 14 hours from morning to night no problems.

2.1 had some battery drain issues.

Sounds about right.
 
The battery usage is as follows:

Cell standby: 51%
Phone idle: 38%
Display: 9%
Android system: 2%

No applications running. Should have been the same through the evening.
 
Think I've found what was eating the battery. After reading a few forums I disabled "background data sync" and "auto sync".
It's now been 16 hours since the last charge and I'm still on 61% battery life. This is with the screen set to max brightness and on for way over an hour with live wallpapers. As well as 30 minutes of NFS Shift. Plus a few voice calls, sms's, internet browsing etc.

At this rate it should last around 2-3 days with moderate use.

Thats sounds pretty good.
 
Also the battery indicator picture is inaccurate. When it shown about half a battery its actually verging on flat (8%). Rather check in settings-->about-->status until you get a feeling for the battery indicator
