Galaxy S3 now at FNB!

U realize FNB is not a mobile service provider? If you completely throwing out Cell C then you going to be stuck with MTN most properly and a R1.75 per minute call tariff.

Actually as far as I know, FNB's cellphone contracts allow you to choose your network, either vodacom or cellc.

When I said bye bye Cell C I actually meant to the contract. I'm going pre-paid with my number and still trying to decide which network will give me the most data for less. Could be cell c but then its on a prepaid basis.

R295 / month for a phone

How much on Data?

How much on calls?

Total = ?

Seems it could add up to quite a bit.

Prepaid cellc 3GB for 365 days R399 so in monthly terms 250MB for R33.25

Prepaid call rates. Its still cheaper for me than the VC deal of R369 as I dont need the reduced rate calls as I hardly ever call on the phone.

R392 * 24 months = R9 408
Its not that great of a deal

If you are already a gold cheque account holder, you can remove that R97/month, you would be paying it anyways, its only required to be calculated in, if you gonna get this bank account to make use of this offer, which IMHO would be silly to do. That is, unless I am wrong about the R97 which current account holders also need to pay.

Quick Calc:

FNB (Plat Acc) R 415.00 R 9 960.00
Data (500MB) R 149.00 R 3 576.00
Calls (Top-Up 275) R 275.00 R 6 600.00
Per Month R 839.00 R 20 136.00 24 months

iPhone 240 R 761.00 R 18 264.00 (based on similar current package, which I would look at configuring for myself)
Data (500MB) R - R -
Calls (240min) R - R -
Per Month R 761.00 R 18 264.00 24 months

Saving R 1 872.00 (if you choose Vodacom deal)

You're adding the bank charges, which is only applicable if you're not on an Unlimited account anyway. If you are then it's R295*24.

Data (500MB) R 69.00 R 1 656.00 R69 for 500Mb though cellc

I know its IPhone vs S3 but the "S3" package is still by far cheaper.

250MB on an S3 is like under a weeks data use & thats at moderate use.

How much data do you use / month currently?

It all depends if you have access to wifi or not. I have wifi at home, i do all my app updates, and new downloads at home.

I don't do too much social networking during the day, so for me, with push email, whatsapp, gtalk, some odd web browsing and twitter refreshes, i would say 250mb can work.

If you don't have wifi - 250Mb is going to be too little.

With my GF's S3 and having internet at home and work its enough, as it will be for me when i get mine. Only time internet will be used is when we are driving somewhere or out. I might get the 500MB option but will see.

This does not look to bad at all.

What happens if I want to end after 12 months? Can I cancel it and just pay in the rest for the phone or how does that work?

Counting bank fees is stupid, don't you use a bank, why count the most expensive option then if you don't have a bank.

So deduct R120 * 24 = R2880

Now, your not operator locked, get out of the fixed minimum fee mind set.

Calls (Top-Up 275) R 275.00 R 6 600.00 (Topup275 is STUPID, why pay higher call rates and a fixed amount)

For me R275.00 would be enough airtime for a year (I currently have to pay R389month for not calling tho so I can have a decent phone), I avoid phoning anyone as much as possible.

So a further R6000 saving there.

Data (500MB) R 149.00 R 3 576.00 (PLEASE don't endorse this and pay that for 500MB if people stop paying stupid fees for data the prices will adjust).

I have Wifi, and being sensible you have switch your phone to FNB's APN. I actually average less than 50mb a month (R15).

That's another R3216 off your price.

Total after 24 months buying the phone from FNB: R8040 vs Iphone R18 264, I save over R10k

Pick your operator, switch when you want, jump between monthly packages. The Service Providers usage profile does not match normal people.
