Gallery: Nokia N97

I was hoping that the N97 would be the natural replacement for my two year old e90, but the N97 just doesn't live up to that expectation. I cannot see myself - or anyone else - living with the N97 on a two year contract. I'm disappointed that Nokia brought this half-baked product to market as the N series flagship. That new firmware is available already says it all ... Nokia's still working on it ... but unfortunately the buyer will forever be stuck with crap hardware (crap resistive touchscreen, crap keyboard, etc).

Nokia, what's up? You're losing market share at pace with such rubbish.

Scathing review!!!! I've used Nokia's for many years now and must confess I've been terribly let down by the quality of the N85 and N79 recently acquired.

By sharp contrast though I was pleasantly surprised by the E66.

Seems to me the E series is possibly Nokia's best kept secret, I cannot see myself falling for another N series Nokia soon...

Bottom line Nokia need to bring their A game to the table cause they conceding market share at an alarming rate...

The kind of packages the N97 will be tied to (as per rumours) puts it smack-bam in iPhone territory. As a long-time Nokia owner I'll go for the iPhone, no contest. If only there was an iPhone with a hard qwerty keyboard ...

Agreed, I'm starting to lament my decision to get a N79 rather than an iPhone.

Word is the virtual keyboard on the iPhone is so good that a tactile keyboard isn't required.

Not so sure... But perhaps iPhone users could confirm or deny this..

I tried the soft keyboard on the iPhone and I made too many typing errors to my liking. Maybe after some use I'll get it right. The e90 is a gem in this regard ... fantastic keyboard.

I can upgrade towards the end of August, but am stuck with MTN till end of year. For me to get the iPhone at Vodacom I'll have to wait until the new year ... too long ... unless MTN can get the new iPhone (S) also (not sure what the scope is of Vodacom's exclusive deal). As things stand now, staying with MTN, it's between the coming e72 or BlackBerry Tour (or Bold if Tour is delayed). The e75 is option B. I must admit that I'm very tempted to try Android (as coming on the HTC Hero).

The N97 review seems to have been removed from the MobileCrunch frontpage ... interesting. Link above still works though.

Edit: It's back up again ... force edit?

I also wanted to go with the N97. Did my research, and if you check out the Nokia forums, there are just too many issues (and those are just the people, savvy enough posting to those forums).

With all the other issues I have at the moment with MTN, porting over to Vodacom and getting the iPhone 3GS seems to be the logical choice.
