So following on from my other thread about movie backups ........... here's the situation - my trusty Quake II disc died this morning (moment of silence please :(). Totally beyond any salvation but luckily, as with all my dvd's, I made backups. Only problem is, while I may have all my games backed up as ISO's, I've never had to use an ISO, so don't know wtf to do :o

If anyone can tell me how to go about being able to play again (can I put it on disc or can I only mount it or what), I'd be very much grateful as always :D

I thought of Nero but some butthead I know told me it won't do it with copyrighted stuff ....... am I gonna tell him whats what  Thanks for the info chaps.

DO NOT USE DAEMON TOOLS!!!

The days when Daemon Tools were trustworthy are loooong gone. Whatever you do, don't do it unless you are sure you don't mind spyware and all kinds of hell breaking loose.

Find another proggy folks. Deamon Tools is gonners.

Microsoft has a free unsupported tool for this. http://download.microsoft.com/downl...d58df02efa2/winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe

Could be tricky, but better than using Daemon Tools.

As far as I know MagicIso and MagicDisc is also still safe for use: http://www.magiciso.com/

He might be right. Just because you ISO'd a disc doesn't mean the game software will recognize it as authentic. You may need a cracked exe. :)

hmmm ....... so yay or nay it has become, hehe. I'll stick with not getting it if one person has had bad experiences with it .... /me plays safe :o

ah that sucks ........... and I suppose obtaining a cracked exe is something fraught with danger as is always the case :(

Easiest should be to mount it with emulation software of your choice and, if you own the game, visit GameCopyWorld. This is only if you legally own the game, of course :p

Ok, so that same buddy has a Daemon Tools that he d/loaded about 3 years ago .... that one should be safe no? Also, what other safe emulation/mounting tools are there? And, that gamecopyworld, is it a safe site? (I do legally own all my games .... never had a pirated game in my life :D)

You could install something like Alcohol 120% or similar and just install the game during the trial period.

And I've not heard of a virus-infected .exe file on GameCopyWorld, but then again I haven't used it myself...

Hmm, thanks Beanie ..... I'll try that Alcohol 120% and give gamecopyworld a miss .... Siteadvisor is a mix of "it's cool" and "it's virus stuffed" ....
