Hi, I've been noticing these new offers from Game stores where you get quite a substantial Game voucher (up to like r2,800) for signing up to a CellC casualchat 100 contract for 24 months.

I've been seriously considering taking this contract because we could do a lot with those vouchers, but wanted to know if anyone had anything negative to say about it? Bad CellC experiences, anything on those lines would be appreciated. Thanks.

What is the levy per month on the contract?

It sure sounds tempting...

The Woza weekender works best with prepaid, with contract you'll have to use up all your airtime before qualifying for the woza weekender (IIRC).

Due to the volume of calls on the Woza weekender, you may or may not be successful in making a call.

We never had a problem with CellC prepaid so far - except that we had the odd issue with the woza weekender when we couldnt make a call, but that is very seldom.

We have done it on many occasions with VC contracts and Game vouchers. If you don't need a new phone and have a contract due for upgrade anyway, I would recommend it. If you are thinking of taking out a new contract just for the vouchers, ratehr save up and buy the stuff outright. R160 (which is the weekender sub each month) x 24 = R3840. The best voucher you can get is worth R3000.

Depends on what the monthly subs are really. I am not familiar with Cell C but I am guessing it's similar.

Well, the monthly is 145 plus there's a similar connection fee. I worked it out so that you're paying about r1,000 more than the vouchers - of course the phones aren't the best, but they have like the Samsung E250 which is adequate. One of the reasons is also that I have quite a few friends who only have mobiles and it's too expensive landline to mobile, so those 100 off-peak minutes would be useful as well.

Do you know what their peak hours are by the way?

On their website it is not easy to find what their peak/offpeak hours are :(

Have sent an email on your behalf, will let you know

=Do you know what their peak hours are by the way?

Peak: 07H00 to 20H00 Monday to Friday
Off Peak: 20H00 to 07H00 Monday to Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Public holidays.

Woza weekend promotion applies on Contracts, however only once exisitng free minutes have been used up. 60 minutes per weekend free Cell C to Cell C calls.

0700-2000 Mon- Fri + weekends then. Okay that seems fine. Any warnings about CellC though? Heard some things about their contracts being quite bad.

tempting sure, but don't for a second forget about Cell C's poor, insulting customer service. they stole R93 from my account and won't pay it back. i've had endless problems with them. they're a hopeless bunch.

I took one of these contracts with vouchers about a year ago. Got a neat and small Nokia phone and R2900 in vouchers. We bought stuff we really needed back then. Although the subscription we pay is R145 something a month, if you work the vouchers into that it came to R24 a month.

On some of these deals there's also an option to not take the vouchers - e.g. on our contract it would have cost R48 per month, so the vouchers option was far cheaper.

If you want to use Woza Weekend just apply for a 2nd line and take the Value Chat package. There's no subscription (if you don't take CLI and itemised billing of course) and you can always call for free (60 mins) on weekends without the need to use up "free minutes" or loading airtime during the week.

There was no catch on the vouchers. We spent it over a couple of months. If you don't use all of the vouchers at once, they give you new vouchers as "change", but their expiry dates may be sooner than the original ones.

That Woza weekend thing sounds pretty cool to me.

Thanks warwickw. And ajax I appreciate your input, I'd like to go for it. Only thing is my wife is still nervous about using CellC because she's heard things about it. Anyway I guess that's our decision. We could definitely spend all of the vouchers on one trip.

If you're only looking to make calls and send a few sms, i.e. no data, no bundles, no special nothing, you should be ok.

I understand your concern, however for a little peace of mind, I personally have 4 contracts with Cell C, plus my whole extended family is on Cell C totaling 11 contracts in all. I have also invested personally a small fortune in Cell C and my future.

I also had concerns but they were put to rest last year after a discussion I had with management, and also some common sense.

Granted I could be wrong, and have complete misinterpreted the situation, but I somehow doubt it.
