Gaming on the new woosh is great, but it can be so much better. I thought of idea that i would love Cell C to implement and that is a Gamer dedicated APN.

The bases is that gaming related ports would get priority, but this would exclude:

1. the ports related to updating games
2. Any form of downloading
3. Limited browsing

Would include:

1. Ports for most popular games
2. Teamspeak, vent, mumble

I would happily even pay a monthly fee for something like this, but we need to see the improvement to warrant it.

But let me know what u guys think, maybe we can even expand on the idea. Not sure how difficult it is to set something like this up.

I dont really have much fact but have some ideas that might help:

Popular Games:

Heroes of Newerth
Warcraft 3
World of Wrcraft
Warhammer
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (the patches are what really kill the games)
COD: Black Ops

Steam (not a game but many users would prefer buying and playing thier games but bandwidth remains an issue)

Other: Xbox Live or PSN.

Zero rated game patches would be awesome, maybe hosted on a Cell C mirror that requires a user to use thier data sim web access info (you know the cell c site registration).

I, like many users understand that Cell C can't give away thier bandwidth however there are many users who would be willing to fork out maybe around R 250 a month for a dedicated APN idea like this. Where gamers are given priority for gaming on gaming ports. kinda like reverse shaping in a way. Of course torrents should be blocked on this APN.

Updates could be hosted locally on a Cell C server to alleviate international bandwidth usage and thus decrease the overall cost.

Would you be able to switch gaming mode off, to give you normal priority to browsing and downloads again?

Hi

I have mailed some of the okes there at Cell C with the port details for Black ops on PS3. Seems they have made some changes there. I can sometimes find a game now to play but still mostly have to join friends in a lobby to play online. When looking for a game it would normally go straight to waiting for players to join. Nat type is moderate indicating that they are blocking some of these ports for online gaming.

Like 10 people probably use the ps3 with cell C for gaming, they should focus on PC gaming and pc gaming related ports first with the Gamer APN.

You obviously are not a PS3 Fan but there is a lot of gyus playing witht the data card at the moment. For the gaming APN they should just go for unrestricted.

Any ways comment from the Cell team

Okay die port is ge-add…

Sal jy so gaaf wees en vir ons toets en dan laat weet……

Groete

An unrestricted apn is not the answer. A game requires a constistent connection to the internet and from what the cell-c told me this saturates the network. So where opening the relevant ports is important, its providing that consistent connection which is the priority.
