Gamer looking for WiFi service.

Hello,

I'm about up to my neck struggling with faulty lines, and I have decided to try a WiFi service rather.

I frequently play League of Legends and Dota 2.

Mweb has some sort of 2Mb uncapped FON network on advertisement, and it looks pretty appealing, since it will cost about R200/m. I don't want to spend money on a router if it's going to be bad, though.

Help me out here, guys and girls.:confused:

2MB FON service is still ADSL with free Wifi attached to it.

It's not a request and install wireless service like you think. It's a roaming wireless service.
 
Okay, but if I were to go on a pure WiFi service, like a dongle, what should I go for?

EDIT: For example, Afrihost has its MiFi which also looks appealing. Anyone care to give me a review or two on it?

We (BitCo) have had really good reviews from gamers on our new Wireless Home Internet so far. There is more information available at http://www.bitco.co.za/homebroadband/ if you are interested.

Our network is Ethernet based so latency is extremely low. I get 5ms to Google from my home in JHB.

Sorry, I just saw that you are in the Western Cape. We are currently busy with network planning in the Cape and will have our towers online only later this year.

PM sent, can we try and speed this up, another company (comtel) has almost confirmed that i get LOS to their tower, they will do a site survey later today. Hazel wont arrange one until I accept a quote, which is weird, I would rather confirm signal first.

She says she thinks I fall in your coverage area, but amobia doesn't work here, not sure if you have similar high sites to them.

Never accept a quote or pay anything until the company comes to your premises and does a LOS test and confirms that you can get access. Also confirm what the max speed is you will get.

Just curious as to why you say this? We have cancelled a few orders when there was a problem with trees or a building blocking signal.

We would never hold a customer to a contract if we couldn't supply a good service.
 
I tend to agree with him, and partly because your signal map shows borderline coverage for me I have gone with someone else who offered a free site test rather that commit and then have issues with signal.

Hi there,

This was actually not aimed at you at all. It's just common sense not to pay for for the installation cost up front, if you don't know 100% it will work. I'm on a WISP as well, and they do require drilling into your house on the side and then some point to get the cable into the house. I would not want that if I knew I would not be able to get signal. I had 2 WISPS at my house and both did LOS test free of charge.

Only after WISP number two showed me I can get connection did I pay the installation fee.

Like I said, not directed at you, but you do get some dodgy fly-by-night WISPS these days. Was just a friendly warning to lived666
 
Yeah CPTBoy, we've seen some horrendous things in this industry. We know of a few that are not even licenced and operating illegally.

We only start invoicing when the link is handed over and all technical testing is completed.
 
Odd.. WISP has a coverage map so can determine with a fair amount of accuracy whether the potential client has signal. Granted there are mitigating factors but what is the "accept a quote" entail?

OP try Amobia or Comtel or email WAPA for a provider.
 
Really hope this works.

Placed my order yesterday, really keen on this solution, just a little bit worried about line-of sight but the map shows that I fall within the coverage region.

I have been struggling for more than 4 years to get a proper internet uncapped connection at home because of issues with ADSL line installations within the complex.

If this works as well as the reviews say I will definitely recommend it !

I have tried everything, VOX, Satelite, Neotel, Iburst, Telkom ADSL, Metronet.

So keeping my thumbs crossed.
