lolz....

According to Doctor Chou Yuan-hua, from the department of Psychiatry of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, gamers risk damaging their brain functions and affect their learning and emotional control.

The Taiwanese doctor monitored the blood circulation in the brains of 30 test subject, all 25 years old, before and after playing a video game for 30 minutes.

Doctor Chou Yuan-hua noticed an obvious decrease in blood flow in the frontal lobe of the brain, as well as the anterior cingulate gyrus . The effect was more pronounced in those playing violent video games.

He explained that the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex, located at the front of the brain, is associated with thinking, speaking, decision-making and impulse control, while the anterior cingulate gyrus, located in the medial wall of the frontal lobe, modulates internal emotional responses.

Chou noted that clinical experiences have proven that patients with schizophrenia or depression have significantly lower blood flows in their frontal lobes and anterior cingulate gyruses.

TF2 !!!

All that blood goes to my fingers for better control ;)

compared to alcohol, which cuts off bloodflow to the entire brain, games are nothing

*Applauds stealth* :D

But watch out Gdiza, stealth just loves you for your computer :p

On topic now, this is one of the first *Down with videogames* claims that didnt include massive amounts of numbers and diagrams/scary words/etc

I have a bit of a theory about this... Since the effects are more prominent in violent games, maybe it's as if your brain requires you to sort of turn off the bits that would tell you what you're doing is bad, in order to stop you from getting emotional? Would be interesting to see whether one sees similar effect when watching ultra-violent movies or films with otherwise disturbing content(A Clockwork Orange comes to mind, but I'm sure there are far worse out there, not even to mention snuff films)

So they want us to go out and actually commit the violence instead of virtually committing it?

*grabs pitchfork*

The frontal lobe is the censor of the brain, as far as I have it, which develops as people mature. Alcohol shuts down this impulse control, which leads to people doing dumb things. In games you have to be impulsive, if you don't react in a split second you are dead/lose the game. It is not possible to over think a situation and still win a game.

Great so most of us probably has brain damage by now....I don't think so.

Playing Call of Duty 4 in the real world could cause many people to have blood circulation to their entire bodies cut off. I don't see the negative part in the game? :(

what a load of bullocks!!!!!!!

Says an expert. By that comment, and some others, I may believe its true. Rather be concerned and research a way to compensate, like binge drinking after you loose the level!

Some of my friends claim that I blink alot less when I play games..they claim that I see more than they do..and that I might develop some eye disorder...this has yet to happen.

Brain damage? hah, you know what caused brain damage to me: playing snake on old nokia phones...oh the frustration...

EDIT: and NFS Prostreet...
