Sup Guys...

Have a brand new PC.

Quad Core 2.66GHz
4GB Ram DDR 2
Radeon 4830 512MB
Intel G43 Motherboard
2 Terabytes
500W PSU

Now the drivers are the latest for the GFX and DirectX 9C is installed. running XP.

Games will freeze at random times... minute, hour, couple hours. It either freezes the screen or it just restarts the PC.

Another prob I have is that it makes random signal marks on the screen for a couple of seconds (like when a cellphone is close to the TV) and then perfect again. this happens at any resolution I try it on... from 1024 to 1680.

Please help!

Overheating? Have you checked the temps? Are the fans/heatsinks connected properly? Did you overclock (doubt it on a brand new PC?)

I have noticed that the onboard fan doesnt spin faster... it just spins at the same speed whether im playing a game or not.

Where can I see the temps whilst playing a game?

No overclocking done.

What is the norm temp for CPU and GFX?

Thanks!

Try a memory checking program.

Is it only when you are playing games? Are all your patches/drivers/bios up to date?

Search these forums for a tool, there are lots (I cant recall the name to be honest :)) I would say between 40-80 degrees would be limits that should not cause your PC to freeze/reboot.

well just bombed out of another game and my GFX is 41 Degrees.

Check memory as recommended by Greg; new memory can be faulty....

Edit: What temp is the CPU??

SIW (System Info for Windows).

Disable System Restore in My Computer properties and you should get a blue screen with a specific error code before your PC restarts. Write down that code and Google it.

Also test with bare minimum components - CPU, onboard graphics, one stick of RAM, OS HDD, ROM etc.

Don't you mean "Disable sutomatic restart on system failure" PostmanPot?

Could be, it should spin like hell when things get busy on your screen....

That in Vista/Windows 7?

In XP it's 'turn off system restore on all drives' in My Computer properties.
Actually, it's System Properties - Advanced - Startup and Recovery - Automatically restart (System failure section).

Ok guys...

So I updated my bios to the latest version along with the latest ATI driver for my card.

The problem is still there and it still freezes BUT... it does it after a long time... 40 min or so... so at least its not immediate anymore.

Another thing is that when I start a game for the first time after not playing for a while the screen will make stripes across the screen like if you were to hold a cellphone next to it whilst it rang... then the screen goes black and comes back on a couple of times and then its fine...

WTF>

As for the freezing part, I still think it could be your mobo...

Good luck man!
