ok so a while ago i re-installed windows but didn't bother to re-install my games cos i didn't have time to play.

so now i do have some time and decided to install my games again (street fighter 5, deadspace etc) but now for some odd reason they don't launch :wtf: they install correctly etc but when i double click the icon it launches then just stops.

they only thing i've changed on the system was the screen, it's now hooked up to my lcd via a hdmi cable.

the games used to work perfectly before the re-install.

any ideas

Any change in OS? Or are you using Windows 7 by chance?

Seems strange, but try to diable anything that has any sort of system control settings - ie: windows 7/Vista user control, AV settings that provide system/network control... etc.

I had a wierd issue soon after upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista long ago - launching a game would appear to launch (busy icon, etc), then nothing would show up. About 20 minutes later, bam, the game loads. Turned out my AV had a System Control type functionality that caused issue when a game probed for network settings...

i just re-installed windows xp but i do remember playing around with window 7 themes and stuff, i did already uninstall all those .
my problem seems similar to your previous issues, i launched mame just to check if it was working and it only launched 2 min later. i just upgraded to Avast 5 but i turned it off i tried lauching those games but still nothing.

Skype 5 has this silly bug that stops games from launching... almost drove me to murder.

To fix it you need to enable "classic mode"

ok i re-installed windows AGAIN :( and it still not working, the only thing that changed since it last worked was now i have a hdmi cable instead of the rgb and the lcd is a 32 inch (LG) instead of the 17 inch wide i had before.

do you guys think it could be because of the HDMI cable or lcd settings ???

the graphics card is a msi geforce 9500gt 512mb (i googled and found out this card does experience problems with the hdmi output but for sound not video)

Please help :( i don't have another rgb cable to test it out, should i just buy one to test or do you think that the hdmi isn't the problem ?

Try plugging back into your 17" monitor and see if the game launches there.
