Hi
I want to build a pc mainly for gaming and little multimedia. Whats the best performance pc i can get for R12 000-R13000 that has to include everything.
Thanx

22" Wide LCD = R2500 (samsung/lg)
Asus P5K m/b = R1500
Intel Q6600 cpu = R2500
4GB DDR800 RAM = R1000
8800GT graphics card = R2500
500GB HDD = R1200
DVD-writer = R300
Wireless Mouse/Keyboard = R500
Case and PSU = R1000

Total = R13000

Intel QuadCore Q9300 = R2588
ASUS P5K = R1185
Samsung 22" Wide (2232GW) = R2609
2 x 2GB DDR800 = R728
XFX 8800GT (512MB) = R2299
Seagate 500GB 32MB cache SATA-II = R929
Samsung SATA DVD Writer = R228

Total = R10566, which leaves you with R 2400 odd for a PSU,Chassis, Mouse and keyboard.

I'd recommend :
Chassis : Coolermaster CM690 - R826
PSU : Coolermaster Extreme Power 650Watt = R784
Mouse :
1* Razer Lachesis = R646
2* Microsoft Habu - R583
3* Logitech G5 SE - R721
Keyboard : Any cheap one, like this : Logitech Classic 200 - R124
Speakers : OK set : Logitech X-210 2.1 - R353
And Lastly, get a nice mousepad made for gaming : Razer Mantis Speed - R137

Do note that, should you buy 4GB of RAM, you need to have a 64-bit (x64) operating system to fully utilize all 4GB.

Frag's suggestion is good, the G5 SE gets my vote ;)

Doesn't 64 bit operating system have problems with installing other apps ?

Some applications have compatibility issues, but they're being resolved quite quickly now. A lot of forumites are running x64 systems without any problems.

I really don't know.

I only have experience with the three I mentioned...

Actually, if I had to buy a mouse now, I'd get the G9. :D

Don't want to touch any Razer mice anymore, have bad experience with the current one.:o

swop the 8800GT for a 9800GTX Price: R3110 inc vat @ prophecy :p

Is a mouse that important ? I was thinking a wireless desktop. What does an expensive mouse do ?

I've been running Vista x64 for a few months now without major issues. The trick is to download up-to-date x64 drivers for everything.

The mouse is only important if you play lots of FPS games. If the weighting on the mouse is wrong/different then it can really mess without your aim.

Mouse can take you from - Average gamer, to l33t gamer in just a few clicks

Is it worth it to buy a 22" screen for R2500 when a 17 " is R1500 and a 19" is R1600 ? Can u plz check www.zones.co.za and check if the contrast of the 17" makes up for the size of the 19" ?

Yeah. unfortunately with "rounding-off" or some other stupid reason 32-bit only supports ~3.5GB RAM. But not an issue, with the 32-bit OS you only lose about R100 worth of RAM.

Get 64-bit XP/Vista/LINUX, the compatibility issues are give or take solved.
