First up, Im not an Iburst client. I was with Sentech and that dies today so after some research I decided to go with Iburst. (Stupid, I know)

They have a R999 starter pack 'pay as you go' package. I was told I could purchase this from Hi Fi Corp. I could not. HiFI corp didn't know what I was talking about. Not only did the staff member of HIFi corp tell me that they do not sell it but he also told me not to believe anything Iburst says, as they always talk Buls@#t.

So I call Iburst back and of course they informed me that HIFI Corp does not sell the packages, but of course their office in Sandton does, so I should just 'pop' into Sandton quickly, like that's very fast and easy.

Rubbish.

You should be happy iBurst couldn't supply you with a modem - you've just dodged 57 bullets

ADSL + Afrihost?

Cybersmart 386 uncapped for R500 all inclusive?

My thoughts exactly, but where does one go? Everywhere I turn, just rubbsih.

If you can't get ADSL, which should be your first choice, then you have to go wireless. If you go wireless, decide if you want fixed wireless, or mobile wireless.

For fixed wireless, I would go with iBurst. As bad as iBurst is, I think things are getting better (albeit very slowly), especially with Jannie as CEO. Stay away from Neotel, or rather NeoHELL.

For mobile wireless, I would recommend Vodacom 3g/HSDPA. They offer the best coverage, and their customer service and support is way ahead of MTN (which is close to non-existent, and in some cases WORSE than non-existant - trust me this can happen).

I recommend going with ADSL, if you need a fixed connection, and especially if you arealdy have a Telkom phone line. Just make sure you don't sign any 24 month contracts, you purchase your modem upfront, keep your ADSL line rental (ADSL access fee) with Telkom (for maximum flexibility when changing ISPs) and do an ADSL self-install (to save on costs). Oh, and did I mention not to sign any contracts, especially the 24 month long types?

Everything ToxicWazte said, very good advice.

Another thing, if you go iBurst, make absolutely sure that you have a good signal.

Borrow a friend's modem if you have to. Test during the day especially.

Let us know your final decision.

Test not only signal, but also speeds. "Speed of internet is inversely proportional to distance from source". In my case, never got 900kbps and rarely 800kbps, even if signal is 100% strength. All depends on distance from tower.

If you're getting 100% signal strength, and not getting fully speed, then the contention ratio on the tower you are connecting to must be high. Lots of users = slower throughput.

with the new recent iburst costs.. well i think ill be sticking around.. havent had a speed problem in ages.. havent had a tower down in ages.

and when i need something done i come ask on MYBB forums.. as the CEO of the actual company replies... name another company where the CEO himself is willing to help solve your problems thank you very much

I guess there are couple of guys in the forum who have iBurst modems on their display shelves, you can get one here for less than R999 [ downside, no guarantee ]

On the subject of iburst service...
I'm not a current customer. 17 minutes on hold before I decided it wasnt worth it.
Clearly they dont want the business.

I have been somewhat happy with iBurst but for the past 3 weeks I have had nothing but GRIEF:eek:

Every Monday morning when I walk into the office it's up to SHYTE. I have 2 iBurst desktop modems connected to a Asus Dual WAN router with 2 flat panel antenna's I use to get 1.2mb/s but now a days I am lucky to get 100kb/s. Today there system fell over and I am being throttled caused my roll over data was not processed or something JESUS MARY & JOSEF.

To make things worse TELSCUM still has not installed my line cause for reason un be known to me and the rest of our useless fix line operator a order number has not been generated even tho we have paid the blood sucking R 6000.

So it seems iBurst TELSCUM different name same crap service.

My clients in the UK has 24mb/s internet access I can't even get 1mb/s
