Hi guys,

I get these funny artifacts around some things (see mouse pic).
I also can't play any videos. (pic on left)

Does anybody know what this is?

Thanks
ldmelsa :)

what graphics card?
do you have latest drivers?
what service pack?
have you checked the heat of the gfx card?
maybe reset the colours and such in the graphics cards control center

thanks for your reply

don't know let me check - 7300 gt (don't know make - inno3d I think)

no, but nothing changed - it was working this morning

xp SP2

how - can I do that from PC?

ym, maybe try un-install the drivers and re-install them...

to check heat use speedfan(it's a program)

I think you might be onto something with that heat thing, because it only happens when my pc's been on for a little bit.

those flames don't look good

50 degrees aint too bad, the flames on speedfan can changed with some configuration.

Now there two possibilities that could be wrong:

1) Software
2)Hardware

Questions for possible reason no.1:

It worked this morning, any major software update or configuration of any kind during the last day?

Did ur pc hang hang and freeze during maybe gameplay or 3d design or anything graphical?

For no. 2:
How long have you had this card for?
You mentioned you cleaned it out, how long ago was it?

Reason why I'm asking, those colors seems like damaged ram, does it show that during bios too or just when you're watching videos?

Temp solutions that worked for me:
(Soft) System restore always works
(Hard) Place it into another pc, if it does the same then pray that there's still warranty...

Did u try overclocking your card.

Artifacts start to appear when the card is running very hot and overclocking makes the card run hotter

Everything seems to be working again. Strange

No. What's that?

That could be a sign for dying core, soon it'll not post once in a while then eventually (1 year maybe) it'll stop working.

I had a X1600pro which did that

Start saving up for an upgrade ;)

it's a pc
I cleaned it out the other day

maybe I did something

You just committed the first sin of helpdesk hell:

You said 'I did nothing' when actually you had ;)

So I'm assuming you were in there with the vacuum cleaner bashing everything around? Probably just knocked the card loose or something.

Open it up again and make sure all the cards are properly seated, screw them in tightly and check again.

err...
check to see if the cable is plugged in properly, otherwise check for bent pins on your monitor cable.

HA HA HA, I had an ATI x1600pro that did that (2 of them in fact, but warranty covered it :D)
now i'm rolling with an HIS x1600pro with iceQ cooler and such, and it was factory clocked... but the thing just won't die! I mean, the fan has passed it's time (runs super slow now) the core is at 70 degree's and the ram is at 75! i get artifacts every where yet the thing just keeps going! lol....
