I have been successfully accessing the following website using my vodacom 3g card until a couple of weeks ago: www.gametrackersafaris.com (they are one of my suppliers so I need to view their site info on a regular basis)

Now when I try to access the site i get a Gateway time out error, when using Firefox and IE. A friend has tried with his Vodacom 3g card and got the same error. Yet using a dialup or adsl line or my network access at work I can access the site without a problem.

Vodacom help desk has (without providing an explanation of why the site is no longer accessible) asked me to apply for unrestriced APN access. Having read some of the posts on this forum I don't see why I should need this access just to view a website.

My two questions are:
1. Why can I no longer view the site?
2. Is unrestricted APN the solution?

2. Is unrestricted APN the solution?
No, the unrestricted APN is not needed, you should however call 155 and ask to have your SIM Card provisioned for the [searchforum]internetvpn APN[/searchforum] as well as instructions on how to change the settings in your dashboard s/w to switch to using the internetvpn APN.

PS: Welcome to MyBroadband :).

Thanks

Got it changed (after convincing the call centre operator that is was definately what I wanted!) All working 100% again.
Thanks for the prompt advice really appreciate it:)

internetvpn APN or unrestricted APN?

In most such cases, switching to the internetvpn APN will bypass the problem [-]experience[/-] experienced on the [default] internet APN, the unrestricted APN is only needed if incoming ports need to be opened [i.e. not firewalled by Vodacom].

What concerns me, and you're not the first person to mention this, is that the 155 call centre people seem to be suggesting switching to the unrestricted APN instead of the internetvpn APN.

Yup, will pick it up with 155 management.
