Gautrain prices revealed

Well lets see how this works out, government should try other means of getting people to adopt public transport, like supplying more reliable buses, fixing the present trains, instead we have to wait 5 years at a cost of billions for a train going in almost a straight line? What about people who don't go in that direction, but still need to use the highways?

I cannot wait for the OR Tambo to Pretoria station link to be completed. Even if it is R200 per trip I will gladly pay it, just to skip the R21.

I speak as a traveller and not a daily commuter.

I spend far more than R50 a day travelling to and from work and am travelling from the east to Sandton. The prices seem very reasonable to me - far too many of you are looking at the ORTambo to Sandton cost and making assumptions based on that. Rhodesfield is 5min from ORTambo and is less than R50 for a round trip to Marlboro, including bus-fare. That same journey costs far more in petrol during peak traffic, let alone the overall running costs of a car, the wear and tear costs and the insurance costs. I don't understand how most people posting so far are having a dig at the prices...

It's £7.90 from Paddington (until a few months ago it was £5 something) and if you go by tube it's £4.50 during peak hours from zone 1 (e.g. Piccadilly Circus)

Why not compare it wit the Heathrow Express which is up to £23 (R250) one way.

Point taken though. I listed the Heathrow Connect because, well, there isn't that much difference beween it and express class on the Heathow Express, except for the latter not stopping in-between. I don't know what the Gautrain will be like inside, so I have nothing to compare it to.

I can't believe Peter just called Sandton a "rural backwater". Evidently you've never been to an actual "rural backwater," Peter. Sandton is one of, if not the financial hearts of Africa. Try visiting a "city" like Lusaka or Blantyre before dissing Sandton.

Yip, daily commuters will be paying about R60 a day all inclusive. The R100 trip is only for Sandton to ORTIA. Rhodesfield is really close, and is way cheaper.
