Gautrain to open before SWC

*bump* back on track ....

Well I hoped this would give me a reason to use OR Thambo because of the increased number of flights from different airlines. Ah well, looks like kulula.com will continue to get my business because at R200 for a round trip (on a R300 flight!) I'd rather use the closer alternative.

How is that possible ? There was no housing backlog under apartheid because there was no policy to build people houses you muppet !

Just for one moment imagine you're Johnny poor black man and living in poverty. You've now got a house , electricity , running water etc. You wanting apartheid back ?

Why the hell am I having to defend the obvious here ? The A.N.C are not a good government. But they're better than what went before. Simple plain fact.

John, did we not read Lance's articles or quotes? Tut tut (now who is the muppet?). Have a closer look, buddy... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...n-before-SWC&p=3894181&viewfull=1#post3894181

And those houses in Meadowlands and surrounds didn't build themself, hey.

Oh and yeah, all the free electricity and water in the world is fantastic. Oh course when you're jobless and starving you can't really eat the copper wiring, now can you. Zuma is already 1 000 000 jobs off his election promise with only the DA led Western Cape actually creating jobs during a recession. So once again, forget Apartheid and focus on 2010, okay?

Last week on Sunday we had a power failure at 1:30 in the morning, only came on at 5:00am. Another one on Tuesday at about 2:30pm until about 6:30pm.

Are you 15? I am 35+ and we had numerous power failures in my youth! Power failures are not a new invention! And is 4 and a half our to restore power at 1:30am really unreasonable?!?! Who knows what the problem was. It is not always a matter of flicking a switch. I recall not having power for hours and hours on end some times. Doing homework and eating dinner by gas light.

I'm positive I recall numerous stories about blackouts in New York.... some lasting a long time! Are the ANC in control there?

It is these sort of arguments that make me think that there is no fairness in theses arguments against the ANC. I get accused of hgaving rose coloured glasses but I think you guys have blinkers on and cannot see outside of your preconceived ideas.

Come on Lancelotza, just down the road from me is a leaking pipe, or should I say a gushing torrent of water that has been that way since around September last year, I can tell you that thereis about 20 odd potholes, 1 of which, just outside my residence, has been repaired about 10 times in the 5 years I've lived here. Guess what? It keeps coming back. I've nicknamed it Butch as its like a Golden Retriever, it keeps coming back. Last week on Sunday we had a power failure at 1:30 in the morning, only came on at 5:00am. Another one on Tuesday at about 2:30pm until about 6:30pm. I don't know how many we've had this year. A few weeks ago, some idiots pinched telephone cables, Had no internet for a week and a half.

Admittedly that last bit is not ANC's fault but if the ANC had to fix it I'm pretty sure I'd have to wait for a year.:D

It's like that sinkhole in Musgrave last year! I saw it and that Polo stood no chance!

It was once (now who it exaggerating, Lance?), though it was three days, and that was because a bolt of lightning hit a nuclear reactor!

Ruimsig, Sharonlea and some parts of western Johannesburg and the West Rand have had no electricity today.

There have been rolling blackouts across the city almost every day across for the past month.

Problem? What problem? *sticks head in sand*

I'm 34 and stop yourself from looking like a complete moron, please. I can't remember ever having as many power failures as in this last few months of this year, even when Eskom where doing it on purpose. Yes there was always power failures but not every other week. I do know that power failures can take a long time to fix but the point is in my area, we've had about 9 in the space of about 4 months. And where you living in the bush mate? I can't remember having to do my homework in the dark by cadle light.

How did you twist my words in to that ? I explained earlier why it's important for your credibility as a "concerned" citizen, rather than a cynical bigot, to show that you acknowledge as bad as the A.N.C is, when whites were in charge it was way worse for South Africans in general. There is nothing controversial about expecting people to be able to admit this fact. Admit this and then criticise the A.N.C with valid gripes and I'll support you.

I will accept any government above the past apartheid fascist that abused its citizens with no regards to anyone but the self serving elite within their ranks.

Like Lancelot I also am not a kid. I remember countless power outs when I was a kid , more probably than today. That's what Eskom was only providing power for 30% of the people , unlike the 80% they do today. Everytime there was a summer storm and at least one sunday every month there was no power as well as random times for whatever reason. The ones today are fixeds quicker than they were back then too.

Oh I see. Now during aparheid we were hard at work building houses for black people and trying to get them work ? What a bunch of crud !

I don't like the A.N.C but again did you not notice the recession ?

I love how endlessly cynical and "it's all futile" people get. When you call them to task on it and get down to the meat it's because "potholes and free houses built with poor quality and loss of jobs during recession !"

Makes you lot look a little loopy don't you think ? I'd understand if the sky was falling but really ? Potholes ?

Really?

You might find this article of particular interests with references to the "wretched condition of the roads", Yip, ANC at work there!

http://www.nysun.com/editorials/brooklyn-blackout/82287/

And Ronjay did not bother finding out the reason for the power cuts he was complaining about so why are you so quick to offer valid excuses for the NY power cuts? Yip, it is that unfair judging again that we have become so used to.

Of course the apartheid government where an epic FAIL. Doesn't mean I have to settle for a government that is failing us now as well, just because it is the ANC. That is why this country is going south. People think that the ANC are the only ones that can run a non-racist, democratic government.

You are right. Phaktza just chose to misquote the links I provided. It obviously does not say none as they probably built some for the labourers when it benefited whites.

Very little housing was built for Africans by the apartheid regime.

Rubbish. Recession has nothing to do with maladministration and corruption. I pay taxes to make sure that I can drive my car with out having to pray that I don't die due to a pothole the size of Australia bursting my tires every time I need to leave the house. I pay taxes and way to much to my municipality to insure i get running water and electricity when I need it. That's the problem with most South Africans, we are always willing to settle for second best. Want to know why Europe has better services, infrastructure and governments, because they no that if they dont provide properly for there citizenry, they'll be out on there @rses.

Well aren't they ? Us whites sure couldn't.

Don't include me in that please. I was a kid when the ANC came in to power and had nothing to do with politics. My best friend at school was a black guy and most of my friends now are none white. I grew up with a family that was very anti- apartheid and if I even thought about disrespecting anyone on the basis of skin colour, my mother would have flayed me alive.

I live in a pretty obscure part of the country and potholes appearing here are quickly fixed. Even it's obscure the roads have all been redone within the last 5 years. But go ahead. Move to Europe and pay 50% of your salary away in tax. I like Africa. It's my speed. I don't like washing dishes and working too hard and obeying the law all that much. Far as I can tell the government have very little to do with my life. And the weather is nice, the beer is cheap and the lifestyle is great. When I want to make a fire I'll make a damn fire. The people are friendly and frankly I love the chaos of all the different cultures etc. Ag man , this is my home. Criticise it with valid points but stop talking *** about it. It's a messed up country, not nearly as bad as most people will have you believe , but messed up in it's own quirky ways none the less. But hey, it's my messed up country. If you don't feel the same them go somewhere else.

So you think black people should all vote a white party into government ? The point is we didnl't exactly shine last time around. Behind almost every critical post here is somewhat the assumption that if in power whites would do a better job. Sadly history suggest otherwise.
