Gautrain to open before SWC

Could you provide a link to the ANC saying the Gautrain is for the proverbial 'man on the street'?

Also, if it succeeds, the pricing structure may be changed ... As for now, at least the average person will have the BRT :)

Where it is or not is not the debate - in a country of this makeup it SHOULD be.

Going to do Joburg central from Pretoria central and back is about 110km. Thats 2200km in a standard 20 work day month for a commuter. Lets say cars average at using 9l/100km, that means 198l a month. So the average for a person driving currently to JHB CBD and back is around R1590pm if the petrol price is R8.

Now that is just the petrol and excludes the service ( approx R500 to R2000) cost for every 10 000km to 15000km (13800km used in 6 months driving if using my average or 26400km a year) and the proposed 50c/km toll road fee with would be around R60 a day (1200pm) assuming 60km of the road is tolled.

So the possible expenditure is around R2800pm (at a R8 petrol price, which will likely just go up more from now) just to drive to JHB central from PTA central and back every work day on a month. How does that compare to say a monthly R800 gautrain ticket?

And how does one get to and fro from this Gautrain? You probably drive to the station... and on the other side? It's not just the train trip, I'm afraid.

How did you twist my words in to that ? I explained earlier why it's important for your credibility as a "concerned" citizen, rather than a cynical bigot, to show that you acknowledge as bad as the A.N.C is, when whites were in charge it was way worse for South Africans in general. There is nothing controversial about expecting people to be able to admit this fact. Admit this and then criticise the A.N.C with valid gripes and I'll support you.

Stop with the name calling and try put some facts into your argument and people may just take you seriously.

Wow, half you guys really made no effort to try and understand what you're talking about. Just from reading a few of the posts you could see that this is a service specifically for people who are flying, i.e. the terminal is inside the airport. The trains are made for carrying luggage to and from the airport, so this is not meant to be your monthly ticket type service to work. It's also a luxury service of course for people who can afford airline tickets first.

This is not the entire Gautrain service, and actually it's a specialised component of the train. This isn't the regular price or service.. but aai, should have known MyADSL posts would be completely useless/negative on the most part.

So I should increase the cost of my travel by 33% just to get to the airport? Even for those flying it is ridiculous!

And with that realisation watch all critique and "concern" grind to a slow apathy. What a hapless lot.

Still very curious to know which South African government did a better job at helping South Africans have a better life than the A.N.C.

If no one can come up with anyone , then I suppose we must all stop and reflect upon how lucky we are relatively speaking. Yes, that'll do.

Boy, ANC supporters can talk a lot of crap. Apartheid was a terrible ordeal for SA, no question. But the ANC has not made life better for all SA'ns bud, Unemployment is rife, so is crime. We pay more for food and basic necessities then we should. Then we have the fact that half the tax is pilfered by these idiots that should be used for infrastructure and poverty reduction. Hell, corruption is not a bad word anymore, it's just a normal activity like tennis or golf to an ANC official.

Oh and I'm not B!tching bud, I'm stating facts that everyone knows, even you ANC supporters. ANC supporters are like ill-treated puppies. They're abused by there owners but will still want a pet from them.

1. I do not support the ANC at ALL.. But I'm not ill informed and reclusive like most members here to think that they have contributed nothing to SA.
2. You haven't replied yet, you said Gautrain was a corrupt ANC job, you've yet to prove me wrong?

I did not vote for the A.N.C. But what government did a better job helping more people than the A.N.C ? Certainly no white government ! We had our chance. We f'd it up . Face it.

Have you read phaktza's post? And I'm not even a DA supporter but I do recognize that DA are doing a better job provincially then the ANC have done. And I'll be the last one to say the Nats ever did a good job, they where just as shyte as the ANC. All I'm saying is that most of us here on this forum are not stupid uneducated morons that know sweet F all about what is going on in the country, don't try and BS us about what the ANC is doing for the country. Have you ever been to an informal settlement? Any here in Gauteng? You do know how much unrest in the country there is over service delivery? I'm not an uninformed moron bud, I know how to read newspapers. I've also seen how people are living in the informal settlements, I have been to them. I've seen how the people are living in these places. It's been 15 years of ANC rule yet many are poorer now then ever before.

Look me in the eye and tell me that the A.N.C has not done far more for black people than we ever did. Put it out here in the public for everyone to see. Go !

What the hell is this "we"? It certainly doesn't include me merely because of the colour of my skin!

Believe me the Western Cape is being flooded with "refugees" from the Eastern Cape merely due to the fact that a multiracial (read: not a "big boy" cadre club) party is doing a much better job than the ANC in that particular province. Yes, it's a small piece of the puzzle but it's a start.

You ever been to the Transkei ? I'd love to have had the foresite to take some before pics to compare with some after pics today. That will humble even the biggest cynic.

Yes, that's in the Eastern Cape hence the flood to the Western Cape.

Do you need glasses? I even bolded it for you. Dyslexia?

I'll say it again. The Nats where a bunch of idiots, they did sweet F all for anyone but themselves. And they where racists too. Um, but the same can be said about the ANC.

+10 million people with new houses and even more with running water, electricity, free health care, government grants etc disagree with you about the A.N.C doing nothing for them.

Many houses have been built, most of them are standing empty while people remain living in shacks and don't give a figure on the forum with out a link to back you up.

Wait. What? What 10 million houses, are you smoking your socks? We don't have enough electricity (how the hell do you calculate more?). The only reason the water runs is it was built by real engineers way back when. The roads are disappearing quicker than Amy Winehouse' teeth. Have you been to Settlers hospital in the Eastern Cape - free? Sure. deadly? Probably.

Bloody hell, you have a very rose-tinted glasses approach to the "achievements" of the ANC.

EDIT: as of mid 2009 the figure was sitting at 2.6 million houses.

What are you on about ? I said ten million people with new houses. 2.6 million with an average household of 4 = over 10 million + . Given I think the average is 6 people per house perhaps I was too jaded with my figure of 10 million people. Maybe closer to 15. And the of course way more than that now have electricty. It was 30% in 1994. Now 80% of people have electricity. Wow, props to eskom ! Respect !

Roads disappearing ? Do you live here ? Every single road around where I live has recently been redone. Roads today are way better than During Apartheid. Some of the best roads in the world in my experience.

Yes sir and only one person get's assigned one house. How about you say that "+10 million people have been housed"? Then it would imply what you failed to convey. Teh English fails us?

Unfortunately the ANC (in it's infinite wisdom, may they rule forever) failed to realise that giving away free electricity to millions of people without building the supporting infrastructure (namely more power stations) would result in a crisis. Yes, we can indeed multiply electricity by dividing it!

I have spent thousands replacing mags and tyres in the last two years, so yes I'm aware of where I live. Perhaps the farm road that the ANC (in it's infinite wisdom, may they rule forever) led city failed to upgrade is incapable of handling 15 000 vehicles a day... you think maybe? And that is why in order to repair their road it must be removed entirely and built from scratch. Of course economics and cost effective solutions isn't in the policy. Never mind future planning and maintenance. The pothole situation is worse this year than it has EVER been, and yes we all share the same roads...

EDIT: oh and the average Black household size is 4.11 members not "6 people per house". Research, research, research (and links).

Staying off topic.... yes the current ruling party has done more for the non-whites than the previous ruling party, but have they done it as effectively as it could have been done? I don't believe so.
