Geely LC-Now available in SA, Is it worthwhile?

Perhaps you should first drive it and see how it feels. I remember a CAR review on the CK1 which looked like a good deal on paper but the ride was a bit substandard according to them. But the LC does look pretty good so I won't just say no cause its Chinese.
 
I'll give them 10 years and see how many are still on the road and affordable to repair. Tried and tested is safer... Toyota, VW, etc. Polo Vivo is one of the best value for money cars out there atm IMO.
 
Sure, Korean is better - but back in the 60's everyone said the same about the Japanese and look at how good Toyota is now. In the 90's we said the same about the Koreans and now Hyundai is well known for their quality. I think the Chinese are making good progress.

A Vivo is (like all other Polos) a rip-off.
 
I say why not. Especially at that price.

The Toyotas, VWs and Opels will keep holding us to ransom (i.e. with high prices) if we do not opt for other options.

The other reason is that China is the new Japan. In the 1980's (or was it in earlier days) people were screaming MADE IN JAPAN and turning their noses up. But, look at where we are now. The NCAP tests that are better show that Geely is committed to better quality and that says more than just safety. It also says that the overall package is most likely good too.

I would have gone for it if I hadn't bought my sub-R100k car already just recently. It is not a Toyota, VW or Opel.

Why all the hate towards Chinese makers? I'm not saying they are great but they have improved a lot in recent years and they will keep on doing so.

When you're starting off at pathetically sub-standard levels, an improvement means nothing.

About the Koreans? I'll agree to that - Korean cars at the best bang for your buck right now. From something as small as the i10 to large cars like the Sonata and the new Captiva, they give you a lot more car and quality for your money. But the Chinese will get there in due time.

Something tight? Maybe, but it sure as **** ain't their engineering.

They're cheap as chips. Stupid people are easily convinced that you can get comparable quality at 60% of the price. I wonder whether the realisation dawns that they might've been had in that split-second before the steering wheel squeezes their lungs out their nostrils in a collision.

I could not watch the video(restricted at work), anyway this is much much better than the Alfa 156 that I used to drive. The Geely LC is as safe as the Toyota Yaris and much safer than the Citi.

As safe as a Yaris? On what grounds do you say that? On the grounds that a Yaris scored the maximum possible on a useless Chinese NCAP test? That's not a surprise - a CITI probably would too, but I'd much rather take my chances in your old Alfa.

Watch the video I posted above. If that doesn't change your mind, nothing will.

Will watch the video later(restricted work hours now). Anyways is the video about the Geely LC or earlier versions of Geely? The Geely LC has never been tested in Europe.

I nearly threw up when I watched Euro NCAP test on the Alfa 156, that car is a coffin box, I'm sure it's somewhere on Youtube.
 
People bang on about the lack of 'safety features' on Chinese cars, but the irony is that you see only but high end,NCAP rated 5 cars, smashed to bits, with dead occupants inside on our roads.

Oh and this car comes with front and rear airbags.Its your money, if you want it, go for it.

CK - the bigger sedan. Tested last year. If you think a Chinese manufacturer can go from building an atrocious sedan to building a safe sub-compact in 12 months, you've got a dangerous amount of faith in the Chinese automotive industry.
