Geely LC-Now available in SA, Is it worthwhile?

Agreed, a Vivo is probably a better buy than a Geely right now - but compared to something like the Figo or even i10/Spark/new Picanto the Vivo is a pretty old and stale deal.
 
I saw a Geely on the highway yesterday. Seemed brand new with temp registration etc. One of the front lights didn't work... :D

The spark and picanto are dinky toys by comparison IMO. Besides, VW vs Kia/Chev/Ford is no contest. Figo close second tho IMO.

Very close between those two IMO. I like the fact that the figo is cheaper for spares.
Anyone considered the little suzuki swift?

The July issue of CAR magazine has a small article on the Geely LC. Apparently is it pretty good with ride quality that is better than you'd expect it to be. They have been fairly hard on Chinese cars so if they say its not that bad then maybe this Geely is something to consider worthy.

I'll scan the article and upload it tonight. You should actually go with what CAR says, they are very pro-VAG (something that annoys me to no end).

The Geely is a bloody clone of the Kia Picanto...no wonder you think it might be a nice buy! :rolleyes:
 
I am undecided about the Geely, just saying what CAR said.

They do have an extensive article on the new Picanto and it looks amazing. If the spec level on it is right (ABS across the range) then I think I will have a new favorite small car and a brand new stick to beat Vivo ass with :cool:

I wouldn't put Picanto and amazing in the same sentence lol.
 
At the prices they suggest it will sell for and the way it looks you'd be hard pressed not to admit its a good option.

It will no doubt have better power to weight, power per displacement, CO2, spec level and obviously looks, than say... a Vivo.
 
I'd like to see more 50,000 km reviews of cars as I think you can only accurately guage the reliability of a car after this sort of distance. I certainly wouldn't consider buying a new brand on the market.
 
LC / Panda Geely

Everyone's missing the point of the post. The LC is not made to compete with any of the above mentioned cars. It is a small car, preferably for a girl or working lady, that wants to drive a car that looks like a panda (a cutesy car). The safety rating and video suggests that it is pretty safe. It is definitely the cheapest car with really cool features. If you look at the cheapest VIVO it doesn't even have a radio.. for R104k compared to the radio with mp3 and aux you get in the geely for R85k. Even if it's not great quality sound, i don't think a decent radio will be more than R20k.
It's also probably not that comfortable if you drive for long periods, which is also not what it was made for. The geely is just a car to take you where you want to go nearby, the shops, work etc.
I have driven in many different cars and it really should not be judged in the same manor. The LC has a whole different market and should not be compared with bigger or more expensive models.
The LC is just a little super cute car, that is pretty safe and with pretty cool features.
 
I agree 100% with that. The LC deserves a fair chance and at that price it is a very good deal.
