You mean LED backlit LCD. Please don't tell your friends/chicks it's LED, it's not.

What 3D titles you got?

Pity it's LG. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#Types

;)
Yeah yeah I know its LED LCD... still beter than normal crappy LCD
I rented some animal animation thing. Downloaded RIO and Sanctum(haven't watched either just sitting on my pc) simply because I couldn't find content at my local stores. I'm wanna get Resident Evil Afterlife 3D from look&listen or kalahari.
Can you point me in a direction for more content?

Depends reviews seem to put the two on par, it just seems Sony has a better rep therefore they charge a little more then Samsung. Then again it wasn't Samsung who recalled a lot of their TV's due to an electrical fault that caused them to catch fire.

Its a little more, but I don't mind paying R500 more for a Sony. Personally I think their stuff is a bit better than Samsung.

As long as it is suitable for PC use then I am keen to get one. The bezel is also smaller, one thing I hate about the Samsung.

Why surely better?

I have not read one report of someone using it as a PC LCD, can't advise on it. If 46CX520 is anything to go by I'm not impressed.

Personally think Sony is a better brand than Samsung.

Fair enough, but it can't "surely" be better then if it's personal. Anyway, Samsung are the kings of TVs. They also share a joint panel production venture with Sony, so basically both brands use the same/similar S-PVA panels (unless sourced elsewhere).

My LA32C550 bezel is about 3.5cm on the sides and 4.5cm at the top and bottom. Wonder if the D550 would really be bigger? Trust me, the screen is so big you will not be noticing bezels. Can understand why it would put you off though.

Most importantly, remember using a LCD TV for PC use is very different to using it as a TV. If you read the thread I linked you will understand why. Very few LCD TVs are actually suitable for general PC use.

Blacks appear blacker to me, less backlit bleeding. I have both LED LCD and normal LCD.
I'm no expert at all but I have eyes.

:D

How old is the LCD? And which model?

Backlight bleed is said to be worse with some LED backlit LCD. Also prone to a new problem called "light spots". Of course it's luck of the draw though as it's a problem with back-lighting tech in general opposed to self illuminated; some may be better than others at random.

Glad you're happy though. ;)

Ok then its personal :p

I would say Samsung are the kings due to their price, if Sony came in at the same price point as Samsung I think it would be a very different scenario.

I had a look at the Samsung in store and personally it is no oil painting, it really lacks in the looks department, especially with that extra transparent plastic around the edge. Maybe I am just being pedantic, but I want my monitor to not only work well but also look good. :p

I know what you mean about some LCD's not working well for PC hence why I am checking if the Sony works well or not. I see it is an internet TV, so I assume it would work the same as the Samsung.

Dont know why you keep harping on about this.

LED is a short marketing term to differentiate LCD TVs illuminated by LEDs rather than the older CCFL tubes. Its not a descriptor of how it actually works.

By your logic we shouldnt be refering to Plasma TVs either, cause the source of their illumination is not the ionized gas (plasma) but rather the cell's phospher coating which it energises. So should we also be refering to Phosphor-Plasma TV?

Tbh I also like Sony, simply because they are/were known to make good products, especially prior Y2K. They were regarded as a better brand at the entry - mid consumer level, and because of this people still like them. Is this familiar? ;)

Because the truth is that both TVs are very similar techwise, and so much of a muchness, and Sony offers nothing better due to the brand. Samsung, LG and Sony are all on par.

Anyway, I agree with thinner bezel being nicer. I would Google for "KDLXXCX520 thread" on AV Forum, because it's probably been discussed there. Just remember the LA32D550 is known to be a good monitor, and from 1m away the bezel might not affect you...

Like I said to him. I know its LED LCD, who doesn't know that?? To me its obvious that LED lighting will cause deeper blacks and brighter colours because LED's give a very bright white light. Even freaken LED traffic lights are brighter

ppl saying LCD with CCFL tubes can look just as good are smoking crack

To you it is. Someone clued up on TVs.

I don't agree with marketing gimmick because I feel sad for those who succumb to it, which incorrectly increases their perceived value/quality/difference between "the two technologies" (and sometimes even make them ignore a third ;)), when the facts tell us that what they now think (due to false marketing gimmick) - i.e. that LED is always better than LCD - is actually incorrect.

So I cannot agree with your logic, but you are welcome to call plasma Phosphor-Plasma so as to not spread false marketing gimmick amongst those who may succumb to it.

No one said you didn't know. In my reply to you I was just deflating your ego a bit by reminding you it's still an LCD.

And you haven't said which CCFL-LCD it is and the age. You do realise, all things equal, that a newer LCD would most probably be better than an older LCD at blacks and general specs, right? Unless you bought the CCFL-LCD in the past few months?

Your analogies contradict what you say about deeper blacks, because the areas of black are still being lit by the LED back-lights.

Unless you have a local dimming LED? ;) Because AFAIK only local dimming, as a tech, outperforms CCFL/LED back-lighting.

Where is a good place to get a TV in the Southern Suburbs of CT ?

Audiovision, as they have test rooms. Tafelberg might have a test room. You do not want to test a TV under bright shop lighting (Game/Makro), since this does not reflect what's in your room.

Well I don't know man. As I said you seem to know your sheat I don't know much I just use eyes and it looks better that's all i said.

My Sony Ex400 was killed by lightning so its time for a new one! :D

I was thinking of the Samsung 46D6000. Reasons being that it is 100hz (it says 200hz but there is some very complicated thing going on there with dimming etc to make it "200hz" but its actually 100hz) and the screen is an ultra clear panel, so reflections are not THAT bad, but its still not a matte screen like my Sony was.

The PS550 would be great, but the screen reflections would probably get to me a little....

It will be used for only HD sources: HDPVR and occasional console gaming.

Any thoughts from people?

thanks :)
