Well, you will in some cases still get image retention, but it is not permanent... If you watch a movie with black bars (for example a movie with 2.35:1 aspect ratio) you will probably see faint lines where the bars were for a few minutes on a full screen image afterwards. Occasionally it is worse, and people have image retention for a few hours, but it is relatively uncommon.

In general, with modern plasmas you don't really need to worry about it.

IR is very dependent on how high your brightness/back-light is set to.

On my 51D550 plasma I see some areas flickering when I'm really close up, like within 20cm from the screen. Is that normal?

You'll notice it for example where it says "hdmi" in the transition from grey to black.

Also green flickering pixels on black areas. But only from very close.

The buzzy/snowy effect right? Perfectly normal and only noticeable up close.

From close up it looks like the pixels are moving. That's normal? Has this grainy appearance, even when the image is paused. Some black areas have these green flickering pixels which are reduced when dynamic mode is selected. Once again only visible from very close. <30cm

you shouldn't be watching from so close :p

Is it not the pixel shift in action?

It could be the "sharpness" setting. That also happens on LCDs that have the sharpness setting set too high; primarily visible on a darker background.

Edit: I almost always set the Sharpness setting to 0/Off

Yeah that sounds plausible. Haven't had the LCD long enough to watch local feed but CC will be the test.
Hey sandmanm34, did you watch the CC game last night? No sign of any (facial closeup) ghosting on my C530 picture, what was it like on the D550?

I did Roman... but on the plasma... :o ...Will definitely watch the Sharks/Bulls game in the lounge on the LCD though...

Tried the USB media player thing and am mighty impressed with that feature!!!

Bit disappointed there is no audio out via RCA though. My older Yamaha amp doesn't support HDMI. Currently running audio via the headphone output on Sammy into RCA in on Yamaha. Will purchase digital fibre optic cable shortly...

I don't get audio from the USB function through the headphone jack though.

Watching chiefs vs spurs on a 51D550 plasma and I notice a slight trail on the ball when kicked hard. Also on hand movements. Sabc1, sd pvr using AV cables.
