Samsung PS51D450 plasma is about the same price, 11" bigger, and offers better picture quality/blacks/colours.

Best 60" to 100" Screen to go for? Plasma better than LCD yes?

Hi guys,
Not sure if I am posting in the correct thread ... please excuse me if i'm not, but here goes ...
I'm looking to buy a new 60" or bigger screen/tv. Must be best for High Definition movies and Games and sports such as Formula1 only and preferably PC compatible. Also good 3D compatibility. From the little that I know, it seems that plasma would be best option? and that I would have to go either for Samsung or Panasonic as Pioneer no longer make screens? i'm looking to spend around R20 to R35 for something thats decent and value for money ... any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

60" or bigger at that price range is difficult. you would have to downscale your size OR the brand name of the tv. I don't know of any 55" and bigger plasma's in S.A, but i have seen 55" LCD LED's. LG and Hisense seem to have the larger / cheaper ratio in this size.

Thanks Wasp_21 and Roman4604,
I would be willing to spend a little more or downscale slightly yes. I'll do some research on the Samsung 64D8000 plasma quick, as this sounds like the best option for now ... thanks again for your help guys, much appreciated!

R19,999 PS59D550 59" 3D plasma.

Dion Wired.

Thanks Postman,
I am seriously considering that one as well (PS59D550 59" 3D plasma) but I was looking at the Samsung PN51D8000 ... it does not seem to be available in SA ... only at wantitall.co.za ... but they import so it's double the price ... anybody know if this will be released in SA or if it already has been? or know of a better price? It seems to have most of the features that I would like but it's a 50 inch which i can live with I suppose ;)

I would second that 59" Samsung jobbie but I can swear I saw it being advertised for 18,999 but for the life of me I can't remember where

edit: Sorry, I need to refresh before posting! As far as I know for a 8000 series locally you'll need to look at the really huge mothers ...

You cant compare the 5 series engine (signal processor) to that of the 8 series. When checking out the PS59D550 I found motion very juddery (high contrast vertical edges moving horizontal have a step-step-step motion to them), so wont be so nice for your F1.

If you can afford it go for the D8000, as you mention its a pity the 51" D7000/D8000 arent available locally.

51" bowls people over. After the precedent Series 5 plasma sets, it's largely a question of is it worth paying so much more for a relatively smaller increase in PQ.

Thanks for the input guys ... decisions, decisions .... I hate them, lol ... anyone perhaps know if the 51" D7000/D8000 might be released here in the future? I don't understand why they have not done so already ... seems to me a no-brainer to me as it would be a good option for many TV enthusiasts ... I'm now being tempted to possibly hold off and just wait a couple a months until the 64D8000 drops it's price ... if it does at all ... hmmm

Doesn't seem like it's coming.

Perhaps check out the Panasonic's. Probably better than the Sammy's. ;)

Otherwise perhaps a Sammy C6/7/8000? Last year's model...

Hi all

I am looking to spend R6-8k and am looking for the best all purpose tv.

Any suggestions?

R5,999 - R6,500 Samsung PS51D450 51" HD Ready plasma.

Or if you have a bright room or need Full HD, Samsung LA46D550 (50Hz) or one of the LG 47" 100Hz (dunno model).

For R9,999ish there is also the PS51D550 Full HD 3D plasma, highly rated.

Thanks PostmanPat, been very keen on the PS51D550, but might just be a little out my my price range (also only seen it for R11 500)

Been searching for a while, but where is the best place to actually buy? (Cape Town)

Edit: [ Do want Full HD ]

Hi Guys,
Thank you for all your comments and info, muchos gracias!
So I ended up doing the unthinkable ... I purchased a Samsung 46" LED 3D Smart Series 6 ... for around R12,500 ...
I need opinions please ... was it a good buy or not?
Originally I set my mind on the Samsung 51" Full HD Plasma D550 for R10,000 @ Game atm ... seemed to be the best "all rounder" ... but then I saw this 6 Series LED and was seriously impressed by the picture especially the black also the extra smart features, that I probably won't use right now, lol ... maybe it was the damn sales people that supped up the picture settings to impress idiots like me but i have to admit I was sold when I saw it ... so there you have it ... I am a happy customer but I would like some other people's opinion on this product ... do you think it was a better choice than the 51D550 Plasma or not?

Dude the PS51D550 is available at Game for R9,999 if you're interested :) also, if you can some place else cheaper, they throw in a discount ... just be sure to take the other places details and contact number along ... an the other store must have stock available else no discount :)
