Hey guys!

What is the general opinion on generic batteries for your MacBooks?

I see Partstore has a generic for R779 vs the R1399 for the OEM battery. My machine is old (2006), so I'm not too keen on pouring money into it.

Personally, I'm not too worried about the generic; so long as the OS doesn't reject the battery.

I bought an Apple MacBook 2007 White Battery through Amazon from the States. Ended up paying R 650 for the battery including VAT and postage.

It wasn't in the retail packing but it was a genuine MacBook battery. I was very skeptical at first but the battery is now 6 months old and works fine as expected. Normal charge cycles and longevity.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll also have a look at Amazon and see if they have any good deals.

Thanks. I see he's based in JHB. I'm in Cape Town.

I already stripped the battery casing open to give the batteries a bit of kick with the big power supply at work. They charged nicely, but the circuitry didn't work afterwards. Not sure why, but the battery indicator doesn't work and the OS doesn't see it. The way I charged them the circuitry shouldn't have failed.

Anyway, bottom line is I don't think repacking is an option anymore.

the i7 uses a different battery the one advertised s for the 2008/2009

Ye, thats the one for my old 2009 MacBook Pro 15 " hence the reason why I ordered it

I just gave the link to show what generic batteries can be bought for. Just look on the back of your battery for a part number - mine is an "A1175" 10.8 Volts @ 60wh

Use your battery part number to do a search on eBay or on other outlet site. I also have a 2011/12 15 " MacBook Pro, so I think yours will also have the internal battery like my new one. That might be a bit more difficult - I hear that Apple epoxy'ed the battery into these newer MacBook Pros.....grrrrrr I don't know why they didn't make it an external removable battery like the older MBP.
