He must be the best commentator of any sport. An absolute joy to listen too. A wealth of knowledge, witty comments and a refusal to be censored by the PC plods.

Tells it like it is unlike the S.A spineless muppets behind the mike

For some more info on the man...

the man is a living legend,
was a brilliant player too, he had the nickname Boycott Boycott when he batted alongside Stonewall Baily. They could block any game into a draw for 2 days long.

I think he is ok but I have to admit that he often seems to be trying too hard to say something controversial....

I don't think there is anything wrong with the South African commentators.

Well there's a surprise.....

David Gower along with Hussein are the only two English commentators that annoy me

Nah Jackman's the best of the SA commentators IMO. I could fall asleep listening to Wessels (listening to him is much like watching him bat) and Cullinan.

Anyone remember another English commentator, Jack Bannister? I reckon he was pretty good too.

And why should it be surprising? Why should I be expected to dislike the South African commentators? I really don't understand your logic. Boycott is merely there to add some controversy and humour (even though he is not actually trying to be funny!).

I don't find it at all surprising that you make a sweeping generalisation about all the South African commentators being "spineless muppets"!

Geoff is the best of the SS team. I prefer the sky and even channel 9 commentary teams. The reason is quite simple the SA commentators are unwilling to tell it how it is due to political fears. I mean Shaun Pollock when Nasser hussain in the first test asked him whether it was time to drop ntini tried really hard to avoid the question, would have avoid it if Hussain didn't bring it up till he answered it.

I want my commentators to deal with any issue no matter how sensitive.

Unfortunately the majority of them are spineless. The way they try to avoid the Ntini issue by trying to justify his selection is laughable.

After Symcox was reprimanded for speaking his mind, the rest just put their tails between their legs and went on with it.

This probably has a lot less to do with being spineless or political pressure than it does with the fact that he is probably mates with Ntini. Pollock would probably have no problems telling you that he thinks an Aussie or Englishman should be dropped. However, in saying that you will see from my response below that I heard a number of South Africans chatting about this topic... in fact if you look through the cricket thread you will find someone complained about this being the only topic of discussion at one point!!!

It's quite funny that I heard a number of South Africans discussing Ntini. In fact it was Donald who went quite in depth regarding this subject and how he was "lucky" to get an injury which made the decision for him an easy one. A number of them also mentioned his lack of pace and the fact that although it was sentimental to keep him the time had perhaps come... clearly we all hear what we want to hear. Perhaps you guys only hear Boycott say it because he tries to be controversial about it when he does talk...

Personally I don't like Boycott. Helluva player though. Henry Blofeld gets my nod. Of the Saffies, IMO, Gerald de Kock is up with the best.

ROFL @ sentimental

Everybody knows why he was picked

Apparently it is only you that is certain Alan! He has 100 tests. He has given his all for SA for many years. He is 10 wickets away from 400 test wickets. Laugh all you want....
