I can approach it with a simple property rights arguement before we get into the the more civilisational side of things.

If the road sign outside my house offends me to the core, can I morally vandalise it? Better yet, if your car is so ugly(I am looking at you Ssangyong) that it gives me PTSD, can I burn it down?

Obviously you don't agree that people should be able to vandalise any property they want to, hence it is you and your cult that is attaching some sort of extraordinary value to the statue so much so that it should be torn down, as opposed to something like a road which can legitimately cause more actual harm to people( more noise, diverting water etc)

That being said, there is more to this, and it speaks to the nature of civilisation. Civilisation only works when people do things by reason, not by force(In a discussion in a thread about police brutality, you would think this would be apparent to people) . If a statue or some other public building does offend people (I am looking at you modern architecture) then there is a way to deal with it and that is with reason.
If some statue of someone you revere with a checkered past (like Mandela I would guess), and it offended enough people, you would want it dealt with in a reasonable way.
What I am getting with the statues, is that people generally revere this process more than they do of the statues themselves. It is the way of doing things.

Trevor Noah tried to make sense of the fatal police shooting of Rayshard Brooks on “The Daily Show” Monday. He distilled what he said was one truth about the circumstances in the high-profile police killings of Brooks and numerous other Black people.

Brooks was questioned by white officers and failed a sobriety test after he was reported asleep at a Wendy’s drive-thru in Atlanta. He was shot twice in the back after grabbing an officer’s stun gun during the arrest, running and pointing the weapon at an officer, investigators told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But Noah questioned how an interaction between two cops and a man who probably was drunk could devolve into Brooks losing his life.

“People always say the same thing ― if you didn’t do that, then you would still be alive. They say this **** all the time ― if you didn’t do that.

“The truth is, the ‘ifs’ keep on changing. If you didn’t resist, you would still be alive. Or if you didn’t run away from the cops, you would still be alive. Or if you didn’t have a toy gun and were 12 years old in the middle of the park, then you’d still be alive. Well, if you weren’t wearing a hoodie, you’d still be alive. If you didn’t talk back to the cops, you’d still be alive. If you weren’t sleeping in your bed as a Black woman, you would have still been alive. There’s one common thread beyond all the ifs:
“If you weren’t Black, maybe you’d still be alive.”

Far too early to point fingers. Probable, but don't forget there are hordes of hooligans looking to derail their efforts or paint them in a bad light.

Put them all in museums. No destruction of property rights. Their historical significance is maintained and contextualised.

Ozzy man is correct, my only qualm is breeding another dominating culture that people must adhere to. For example, fiction shouldn't be under the guillotine, but it does require dialogue though I haven't seen any examples as of yet. There was a time 'creatives' was legally burned at the stake, we don't want to go there again.

Now how would the cops know that he didnt make off with the other ones firearm ?
Lesson learned from this , do not try to steal a cop's gun , it can end badly.
