A Friend in UK is coming to SA in 2 weeks time, should I ask him to bring me a 64GB iPad 3 wifi + 3G for about R8000 or should I wait for the SA launch? What would you do?

If the cost of the local ipad 2 was anything to go by, i would wait for the SA launch. But i suspect a long waiting list so if you dont want to wait and arent worried about warranty then go for UK one.

He should be able to claim the 17% vat back when he leaves the uk which should more than offset any import costs. ;)

Once SA launches the new iPad they will provide support for devices irrespective of where it was purchased. I have a friend who bought his in the UK and had issues with the shutter. The iStore replaced it without any problems.

So IMO, there is no need to let the warranty deter you. I would say GO FOR IT. By the time the new iPad launches here, you will have a few months of value used up - well worth the price difference.

I'm assuming he declared it at customs, etc?

A friend of mine got one as a present and it wasn't declared at customs, etc, so when his speaker broke they borrowed him a bonesaw for his arm and left leg.

Yes, I'm also leaning towards getting it from the UK. Another question, which data plans do you guys have? I see Vodacom has MyGig 1 for R99 or Mygig 2 for R149. How much data do you use? I have ADSL at home so it will mainly be used at work and away from home for email, internet, facebook, etc.
