So next year is my 21st birthday and my parents said instead of giving me one of those parties, they would rather get me a car which I'm happy with.

I just need to think of some good and reasonably priced ones. I'll be getting a second hand car, can you give me some suggestions?

Not more than 150K will be great.

I'm a guy, so keep that in mind :D

Happy Birthday;

have your parents given you a budget to work with? have any cars or manufacturers in mind?

have they said it must be used?/demo/new?

you can go the usual i10/picanto, or if your budget allows you can go for pretty much anything under the sun,

Get the cheapest car possible that isn't falling apart and use the rest of the cash to study...or for your parents to save.

Thanks! Lol Uhm I am looking for something cheap cause I know they can't really afford much to-be honest and yes I'm studying so where ever we can save is good.

Not into ford's, i was thinking something like a Kia Rio and maybe a Subaru but that might be expensive. That's all I have lol, so in need of some good suggestions. I know many guys are into the GTI but I don't find that car cool (design wise)

Suzuki Swift is a great car, you should be able to get a low mileage used one for that kind of money.

Toyota... Nothing like a very reliable car.
/So last night I received a "Check Engine" message on my 2008 Auris. I wonder WTF that means.

Sadly my parents aren't into private deals, more for buying from dealerships lol.

I saw a suzuki! It looks cool

The Swift is a reliable car and your cost of ownership will be low. You can also look at a low mileage Corsa D, they are a massive improvement over the old ones, built in Germany and are a lot of fun to drive.

2011-2013 Kia Rio V 1.4
2011-2014 Suzuki Swift 1.4 GLS (My sister has a 2012 model, 3 years, no problems - fun drive and cheap to run)
2009-2011 Volvo C30 1.6
2010-2013 Alfa Romeo MiTo
2010-2013 Mazda 3 1.6 (Or 2.0)

Honda Jazz

Very good value for money. You can pick up a 2 year old with less than 50Km for about 120 - 125K. You can be assured it will last you another 8 years easily.

I can suggest a 2007-2008 Opel Astra GTC. I got one as my first car 4 years ago and I'm still using it. I have no intention of selling it in the near future, that's how much I enjoy driving it. In the 4 years the car has only been for it's yearly services to Opel and has never given a single problem. When I got the car it was still under motor plan which you wont be able to get now obviously, but I do have an extended warranty just in case.

Its a lovely looking car and very comfortable inside and it has plenty of room in the back even though it's a 2 door (for when you cruising with friends or even other activities lol). On highways I get an average fuel consumption of about 8.2L/100km and to campus it goes up to about 9.2 (my car is a 1.8)
