Getting a dog, any advice?

I don't trust a person who doesn't like dogs.
My dogs are family members - they're allowed on any furniture, they sleep on my bed as well (even upgraded to a SuperKing XL so we're comfy). No, they don't pee on anything, nor leave a mess and yes they get washed. In most cases I prefer the company of dogs to humans - they're honest, enthusiastic, loyal and add joy to my life. My staffy is the love of my children, they adore him.

Technically, dogs don't have a 'natural habitat'. We created them. Yes they're once upon a time wolves, but are not naturally found if you wind back the hands of time.
But yes, totally cool that yours live outside too - they sound well looked after.

I am allergic to them, but moreover I prefer cats, I allow my cats all the privileges and they share my company.
Dogs are too boisterous and bark too much and piss on my stuff and leave steaming piles on my carpets for me to step onto when I wake up.

Staffy is my favourite breed. I dont understand why they are so uncommon these days.

They're expensive and difficult to come by - especially a pure bred KUSA registered one. I hunted and vetted a lot of breeders before I got onto a waiting list with mine. Definitely my favourite breed too
 
The OP may wish to consider the American hairless terrier if you can get them locally.

At least they won't give you nightmares with gremlin looks like their feline equivalents (those things look fugly evil)

We've had 6 (two were/are cross-breeds) in the last 15 years, and none have been snappy. We work a little with spaniel welfare orgs, and unless the dogs are terrified, they generally don't snap. If they do, at least they're smaller dogs. All of the ones we've encountered have been very decent dogs; we've sometimes transported foster dogs across the country, and no hassles at all.

We love the spaniels. They can be energetic, but many are perfectly happy to hang around with their loved ones. They're good with allergies, and don't shed hair. The only concern we've had is many have not liked cats. No hassles with kids.

Well firstly they need to feed the dogs/cats till they get adopted. They also need staff to take care of them. Then the animal get sterilized and a microchip. They also drive to your house to do a home check.
So the +-R1k adoption fee probably does not even cover the cost.

The problem with that isn't that its outside. Usually people with that mentality draw a sharp line between themselves and the dogs, more often than not they're the kind of people that will only minimally interact with/socialize and/or walk them.

I absolutely love my 2 Satffies! One thing you have to know about the breed is that they do everything at 120% whether its sleeping, farting, loving or fscking something up.

This. Females tend to be more snappy and jealous. Unpredictable with kids, especially other kids.

Out of the 4 we had, one male was extremely loving and happy around our kids and other other kids in general. He was a good boy. lived a long happy life (18). Passed away in July this year. Do I miss that doggo.

They also require a lot of grooming, exercise and they shed a lot of hair.

This is so true, in the past 20 years we had 4 dogs. We got a pair of border collies (male / female) at the same time as puppies and they died within a year each other at 13 & 14. When the first one died we replace him with a female collie and when the second one died we got another female collie. My wife calls us the gang because they follow me around all the time. If you want collies you need to get a pair so that they can keep each other busy.
