Getting a dog, any advice?

Both my dogs are rescues.

Small one we got from old people who moved into a retirement home and could not take the dog with them. Big dog I found in a box next to the road. I suspect he was 4 or 5 weeks old.

Get a rescue and give the dog the life he deserves
 
My small bit of advice. The size of the torso is the size of the poops you will be picking up every second day after a hard day at the office... Also size of torso directly related to lightness of your wallet every bag of food. Don't be fooled man. Mid size dog if you love big dogs and small dog if you can stomach a stoep kakker. These be MVP tips...

you better have bought them from the SPCA otherwise you're an insecure egotistical narcissist with a really tiny micro penis... if you did buy them from the SPCA or rescue house then consider yourself a legend with a giant nob

Woah, big guy. Thank you for your opinion, but some people want pedigree animals. There is nothing wrong with that.

Ha Ha.

I've got 2 rescues, they are lovely natured dogs, BUT whoever tells you mixed/cross breeds are the healthiest, is full of it. It's luck of the draw

My dogs have endless health issues due to dodgy inbreeding. They cost private school money each month at the vet with all their meds and prescription diets. My next dog will be pedigreed and come with papers tracing it's lineage to King Arthur's days.

You seem to be one being insecure. There are valid reasons to not get a rescue dog as much as we want to. I personally am not willing to risk my kid's safety on the possibility that maybe the dog will turn out ok. I want to know what to expect upfront, even though it's not 100% guaranteed, but at least there's more data behind breed characteristics when looking for specific breeds...

Bra, I'm the dad in the house, I get to pay and pick up.
(Taking over the puppy only comes later)
 
The only dog on the yard that's "mine" is the Weimaraner which exists to keep people out of the yard.
But if we had a calling the dog over competition between the kids and myself I would win.
I give them snacks and take them running etc.
I don't know how they know, but If I go out of the house they get hyper because they know were going running.

Neither of mine were snappy (the first one has passed on now).

They are however quite 'stinky' dogs :laugh: so you need to factor in very regular washes and they do shed quite a bit of hair if you don't have it cut regularly.

Lovely dog for kids though - very lovable, strong and quite protective.
