Getting a dog, any advice?

Just about every second dog in the UK has poodle in its lineage somewhere. I asked about this once and was told it's because they don't shed and are hypoallergenic.

So not too late to heed my advice : DONT!

Dogs poop & pee everywhere, destroy your belongings, cost a lot ito upkeep, make a mess everywhere, are smelly, carry parasites, spread disease, sometimes attack thier owners and/or family or other innocent beings, irritate your neighbours and generally make a lot of noise......kind of like having a delinquent child, just much worse.

The 'up' though is that you can give the dog away to an unwary soul, which seem to be illegal with children.

If you feed them decent food, they don't kak that much. I feed my pibble Montego Karoo and she poops twice a day at most. She poops on walks so we pick it up immediately.

The love, affection and joy from having a dog makes it all worth it.

My cats don't schitt anywhere in the house nor do I have to do any cleaning up. They also don't annoy people

So you don't have a cat litter box?

My dog doesn't schitt anywhere in the house either. Only outside and she asks to go out when needed.

My turn. So my wife wants to get a dog four our six year old (actually for her, but she won't admit it). I am not supportive about it, because while there are definitely a lot of pro's, I feel that there are more cons. Anyways, I suppose we'll compromise and get a dog. She believes that a mini schnauzer is the way to go, as apparently they don't shed (which is one of the things I don't quite believe), etc. According to Google Gemini, these little jobbies cost about 10k - 15k, which might be enough of a deterrent. Anybody with real world experience?

My wife and I adopted a mini schnauzer years ago. They are great little dogs, but you might have to schedule a monthly visit to a groomer. They are super loveable, but be prepared, they dont like to stay outside and they really want to be involved with the family.

As with all breeds schnauzers has some medical issues to keep in mind. They are more prone to get diabetes at an older age, but we easily managed that for over 3 years .

Replacing the wife might work out a lot cheaper

Bonus is you also get a new cat to play with
