Hey guys,

getting an ipad, mostly for university. Want to know what the best prepaid 3g data package will be? Most, if not all, apps will be downloaded with my wifi at home.

Was looking at cell c's pre-paid data sim cards- R399 for 3gigs, valid for a year. Seems the best I can find. Anything better?

Thanks!

Isn't that 3 gigs spread over a year? Not so great a deal if you ask me. I think 8ta has a 3gigs for 149 deal. Not sure of details though. Why don't you check it out?

yeah try out 8ta's prepaid 3G service my cousin uses it for gaming and it actually seems to be holding its own

8ta 2Gb+1Gb deal is the best for the iPad

I only get 2G connection in my area on 8ta... Not sure if I want that?

Nah, Im getting it through fnb- cheaper that way. Think ill skip a generation of each apple device in the future! (like i do with nvidia gpu's)

Just remember that with FNB, you're limited to 2 free withdrawals a month and charged a fee for every rand withdrawn after that

Just one of the reasons why i felt it wasnt meant for me as i withdraw more than twice a month

/my 2cents rant :P

Best deal of the (which is now is possibly 8ta)
Cellc FYI are having some internal issues which have unfortunately filtered down to their network.

OP. I recommend you don't waste your money and actually get a laptop (as you'll find that the iPad is useless).

My big burning issue is...
Can one create a word document on the ipad, then save an email to someone using MSWord?

I know you can edit, but that is not the same as creating a document. The same goes for ppt and xls.

Hey guys

I just got my iPad.

Sure, the iPad will not replace a laptop or all the functions it offer.

However, with the right apps you can view, edit, create almost all types of Office documents (2003, 2007 and 2010), PDFs and much more.

I run an online business and do everything on it, from issuing invoices, managing my website and even server, and more.

I get all my mails on the go and much more.

I think you can turn your iPad into a great tool for working purposes.

As for data, I would recommend Vodacom. They have better reception around the country than most other.

I would recommend that you get a 1GB bundle at first, just to see how things go. You can always buy more if you need at any time.

@identity, yes, I can do all that on my iPad.

As to the first part of your question - yes you can. There are a number of good Office apps out there, I use Office2 HD. It can tie in several cloud services (though iCloud is notably absent), and you can create and mail documents straight from it.

I am not sure I fully understand the second part of your question.

Same here, just haven't quite figured out how to attach docs to emails, mind sharing the apps you use?

Just get Apple's own Pages, Numbers and Keynote... Once you've created your doc, click on the Tools icon, select Share and Print, select Email Document and then choose Word/Excel or PowerPoint as your format.
