Getting dc from WOW frequently

Yo, i was wandering who could help me. I got my latency issue sorted out. But running on HSPA, i get dc from WOW so much, im running out of spare keyboards to use/break. I cant even quest, and i get dc.

This happens every 5-10 min. I have a E270 MTN modem thingy. To avoid lag, which comes from my modem switching between 3G and HSPA, i have to ping google to get a certain amount of data/s sent to stay on HSPA.

So its just the DC prob now, any help will be great right now.

If you are using your modem now, can you try and ping a WoW server and see if you get any packet loss ?

I stuggle from the same problem and it's hard to put it on Packet loss I ping it and it comes through fine. I'm guessing it only happens at specific intervals :(

I doubt its willy nilly random packet loss as much as it is throughput issues on the wireless link.

I played wow on wireless with 1MBit local. So the line was fast. Problem is as soon as I was in a heavily congested area i'd DC.

I got 384 adsl on friday, which is slower than what I had via wireless, and haven't had a single disconnect since.

Yeah, but get dc, even if im a ghost, which is porbably the least busy place on the world of warcraft. il ping it, but it has to be that i get 100% packet loss, i mean, why the hell else would i dc? jeez, i think im going to quit wow. I think im going to try MTN's VPN today, if that doesnt work, im officially freezing my account

A guildy also had lots of DC issues, turned out to be his combat log. Try disabling all your filters in your combat log (closing the log doesn't help)

Strange things happen in the world of software, but the only way to fix it is to find the problem via elimination.

So you guys could try eliminate the game first by:
- Deleting addons and wtf folders (make backups first)
- Disabling combat logs (uncheck all the filters)

Thereafter try all network related troubleshooting.

I have the same problem. I am on MTN using the desktop router and I get constantly disconnected.

I have tried pinging Google all the time and this pushes my latency through the roof, so that is a no go with me.

What is this MTN VPN thing you talk about.

Hi Guys

I've also logged this problem earlier in forum. Since patch 3.0.8, MTN wireless 3g is DC heaven.

And trust me i have done everything but reload windows, even the batch file posted in another forum topic.

According to WOW forum in america the problem is with the C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enGB\itemcache.wbd file and wireless 3g. This and the 3g HSPDA changeover for MTN seems to be SA players nightmare.

MTN has no solution so far as I dont think they even understand when explaining to them, and what WOW is doing about this is a mystery.

My only option it seems is to go the ADSL route.

If any other solution comes along I'll be a very happy man.

If Neotel ever get me my router (2 weeks and waiting) then I will tell you if WoW is any good on that.

I can't bring myself to get a Telkom line in my house.

Yeah, i was getting neotel too, in december, just to find out that i dont have any coverage, thats becuase they are still new, but i swear neotel will rock with WOW. in july apparently theres going to be many more ISP's, because they building a fibre optic cable (finally) from africa to europe if it hasnt happened already.

Im going to try MTN's VPN today, but I HATE having to dial 1555 and listening to: if you want to meet adolf hitler, press 1, BS. so im going to phone operators till they know my favourite colour.

I doubt MTN's VPN will help with dces though, or what you think pitbull?

Its one of the biggest VPN(virtual private network) in SA, and apparently you get faster speeds on wow, which is not REALLY my problem, i just want a stable connection. I can do with 700ms latency. but anything more is just wrong.

people over sees complain about 300ms latency, and say they cant go raiding becuase they getting a whole 300ms latency. i'll start crying and getting all warm and mussy inside if i get 400ms in a raid. it will be beautiful. lol

I generally use MTN as my main connection, and Vodacom as a back up.

This is because I find MTN to have a slightly lower latency and a more stable (less spikey) connection. However, this has swapped since the DC's started happening on MTN.

My Vodacom died (connected - no throughput) last night at about 9:30, and I was forced to raid on my MTN sim - which means completely random DC's. Whether you're in the middle of a 25 man, or sitting in the inn in Kargath.

We were trying Sarth + 3 last night. Very frustrating for me. Managed to get back onto Voadcom by about 10:15.

em, so, just normal vodacom sim with "internet" as the APN? or what APN you use? i tried vodacom the other night, dced twice in like 20 min, huge latency 800ms at the least up to like 2000ms. But i have 4 bars HSPA, thats what i work on, so if you on HSDPA, as i am not, thats probably going to make the huge diffs.

I really am having a bad experience at the moment

Thanks for help

What kind of latency you get on Vodacom? You on HSDPA? and what kind of signal strength

On Vodacom HSDPA, my lat sits at about 600ms. On MTN, about 550ms. I believe I'm pretty lucky in this regard - must be near a tower or something.

My signal strength is always at ~98%.

But, as I've said - my experience of the two is that Vodacom is more likely to let you down. Which is why I pray that MTN get this DC thing sorted out - though honestly, I'm not sure if anyone would have any clue as to why it is happening.

I can play TF2 for a few hours on MTN, no probs. WoW, no such luck. Did I read somewhere that Warhammer is the same?

But, I honestly think there's no harm in getting a Vodacom sim, and loading a gig prepaid bundle onto it and giving it a whirl. If you've got R300 odd to spare - could be a really fruitful experiment for you.
