Things to budget for, pedals and possibly a saddle and grips depending on how uncomfortable they may be.
Chances are both of these are going to be more than enough bike for your needs.
Not for me but my 12yr old son, birthday soon so we also looking.

Newbie here, looking to get started at some point, how does one get to know what the good vs bad components are - any guides for a newbie which i can look at to learn and get familiar?
To me this seems good value for a young 12yr old and our local bike shop has agreed to match the price.

Me, for many years. Bikes are easy to work on, but there is no industry standard and you will need to purchase tools specific to the component manufacturer.
On the website they say it'll be built, then re-boxed and then shipped.

In that case you will need Allen keys and a torque wrench to set up the stem/handle bars, brake and shifter levers. The drive chain will be preinstalled, same with the cassette.
The only thing I would change is the coil fork, you want an air fork. Thanks to trickle down tech the Deore componentry is fine if you are just getting going.
