contact us, you'd be surprised.

Why don't you do the math for us? Why do people always exclude VATwhen they advertise?

4.20pm on the day Im supposed to get ADSL installation, and no sign
of a techie at all.

I've phoned the adsl helpdesk twice, and they say 'its supposed to be
today, we'll escalate it'

just waiting on some other stuff, then I'll phone them one more time
today, to ask what the ****, as I've sat around all day waiting for nothing..

So tomorrow will be the day -1`of my new ADSL installation.

When you call them, ask to speak to Badu, he's the escalation manager, I have their direct numbers in my book at work, will post them tomorrow.

Noblenanobot, your pc is also a calculator ...

dude, pettyness doesnt become you. have you ever thought that a large amount of our clientelle are companies that just dont take vat into consideration. Now i realise for a guy like you this might be frustrating to pick up a calculator and press a few buttons, but i mean really , cmon. i am getting sick and tired of the pettyness of some of the users here. all im doing is trying to help people.

"dude", these petty users are your potential customers, rather work with them than against them... unless you really don't want the business.

ive come, ive tried. ive been in the IT game for more than 13 years. instead of bitching about the VAT (in my opinion a really simple issue to use a calculator) then rather just ask for the vat inclusive price. is it so hard to use common decency. honestly, ive had customers give me a hard time before, but they have always at LEAST used common decency. and about working with them , ask lonegunman, ive gone out of my way. so dont even attempt to lecture me about customer relations. also, i work for isoftnet in cape town, i am not the company.

No, you are not the company but you do represent the company and its image... but having worked in IT for more than 13 years you should know this. I don't presume to lecture you in anything, this is an open forum and I was merely stating my opinion.

THIS IS A REALITY CHECK

LG when did you order, I chose self installation and it was done in 3 weeks flat which is not bad. Got a Netgear DG834GT modem and so far so good, very easy to install. Just check your firmware, usually ships with ver 1.00. I upgraded to v1.01.25 and no probs this far. This thing even does NAT for you, dunno if thats good or bad.
I will check my account whether the R404 was waived, if not have a bitchin session with the helpdesk :-) ADSL is very cool, very stable, very nice, but oh my word the price, hehe.

noone, if you got a number or two that'd be relevant to an install in Jhb, Melville area, that'd be very naas :) if you dont want to mess some poor guy's life up and post his number on forum, pm it to me, thanks :)

aborg: I ordered it on erm the 13th of May I think it was.
Thanks for the general support, folks - gee, I have to say, its a lot friendlier over here than in the Iburst section - I wonder why - (maybe its coz everyone here pretty much is getting what they pay for? So there's minimal catfights, 'workarounds' 'fixes' 'tower problems' and other stuff that people are struggling with all the time, maybe? Just a thought:)

lol, ye. I don't care about his privacy though, and apparently he is the escalation manager of the help desk, he's your best bet if you need to speak to someone with brains between their ears  <-- if thats possible at telkom.

I usually hounded Badu who then passed me off to the relevant techie's boss or the line fault manager etc etc. Btw, expect one hand not to know what the other is doing. Write all their names down (get direct numbers if possible)

As I am infamous (*toot toot*) on this forum, I think it has spread to Telkom.

btw MAKE SURE that your credit limit is enough to handle the initial cost of the installation. Some monkey (i was approved for 9k) after I told him to make it 3k, made it 1k and they called me today to tell me I have to pay them.

Asked them where the invoice was, to which they replied, "oh no, the invoice is only for the 1st of July, but you have to pay now" RIIIIIIGHT. Told the girly (her name is May) to push my credit limit up to 3k cause I'm not going to stand in a cue for an hour just to pay something I'm not even billed for yet.

But then again,I expected this ;)

re credit limit, hmm, hadnt thought about that...dont remember what my credit limit is - usual phone bill each month is around R240 - guess those days are gonna be over soon :P
are telkom good with 'remembering' credit? In other words, if I go slap money down on my phone bill at a post office in advance, their computers'll do all the necessaries and deduct ahead of the heavy bill coming at the end of the month? (Just thinking to offset the shock, might be better to pay up chunks in advance and let them work out the difference or give me credit onto next month.)

yeah they are not bad...I never pay in advance though - they pushed my limit up to 3k as well for one month thereafter 1k or something like that. It is still a pity though that they charge phone line rental +-R90 on adsl accounts.......that was unexpected to me, thought the R449 soon to be R379 was all inclusive.

Here's an interesting theory I heard a long time ago. Might be folklore/urban legends or not.

When telkom gives you your bill (and you're paying manuall, instead of by debit order) then OVERPAY them by 10cents.

This causes tremendous havoc with their billing systems, since, because you are in credit their system has to calculate interest and what not. Not that they'd ever pay you interest on a credit account, but they still have to calculate it for their books.

This means that you overpaying them by a mere 10 cents, will cause them probably around R2 of costs, in order to manage the credit, the interest calculations and appointing staff to manage this, passing journal entries to handle it etc, etc...

Consider this next time you pay your phone bill.

Remember, I said that this might be urban legends, but it makes common sense that they will incurr some costs in trying to manage overpayments, etc... At the very least, it will cost them some more printer ink, due to the extra line item that has to appear on your next invoice.

Hi LG

If you have no joy with Telkom tommorow I will try to dig up some numbers I have accumulated during my last installation. I had my ADSL installed within 3 days, but it took a fair amount of work (numerous calls to all the departments). As you might have discovered there is a whole chain, so you have to address each component in this chain: from orders to the technicians. In my case it was certainly worth it to make a few calls…

Regards,

RPM

3 days

Here ive been waiting for a month already ('21 working days' of delays, as they told me).
Spoke to a guy called George in Durban, says someone will arrive on monday to install. Only time will tell the truth, I guess.
