Hi All...

I pre-ordered an Apple Watch on launch day, and a friend of mine visiting the US was supposed to bring it down with her when she returned. The problem is that she has now extended her stay... Significantly (until Sept!)... My question is what is the best way of getting it to SA before then? I don't trust the Post Office, and Fedex and the like are just too expensive... Any advice? Thanks!

If you send it via US mail it will come with SAPO from Jhb. Been there done that, got the T-Shirt.

You'll have to send it via FedEx or DHL or the like.

Oh and BTW, prepare for some serious import taxes.

Did your items arrive safely with SAPO?

I find that import taxes aren't always charged with SAPO? What has been your experience?

ask wackhead Simpson, he's in NY atm. He was actually talking about this subject in his morning show.

Haha @Wall, that would be fine if Apple wasn't sooooo behind on it's shipments. You can't buy the watch in Stores, and even though I ordered it on the morning of launch day, it will only be shipped in June...

Not worth it. Without any kind of tracking you don't know where your parcel is / how far it is. I don't even want to use it for t-shirts. Pay the extra money and use a courier.

Either pony up for a proper courier and the related taxes...or wait for your friend.

Or get your friend to send it with another friend.

I just received some packages from the USA via SAPO. They arrived ok but over a month late and had been opened in transit.

Haha! I wish I had that many friends! This one travelling to the US during this time was such a co-incidence...

Ah ok... I guess they open it to work out import duties...

Nope, it is their excuse. There are a contraband itself. :)

Well, like I say, in my case the box had been opened and resealed with SAPO packaging tape - it says on the tape that the box was opened by SAPO and resealed - I got all the stuff I ordered, nothing stolen. My stuff was all expensive electronics, btw

You dont want to entrust the delivery of an expensive item like an Apple Watch to the SA Post office. Courier it or wait until September.

Typical behavior in communists regimes. They won't allow any other contraband inside borders.

I got my stuff via the SAPO, it was non-fragile items though. It just took for ****ing ever to get to me. I ordered for Australia and my stuff landed in Jo'burg within 3 days or ordering, and there it just sat. I would HAPPILY pay more and have a company such as DHL or FedEx deliver directly to my door.
