Hello

I have a laptop running Windows 8 Pro and a MicroServer running Windows Server 2012. For the life of me i can't get them to see each other. I can get them to ping each other, and I can even remote desktop into the MicroServer from the laptop, but if I try reference the other machine using \\name\ I get an error. I have made sure that the machines are on the same workgroup, have network discovery and file sharing enabled (including making sure that all the appropriate services are running), and even completely disabled Windows Firewall on both to see whether it was the cause of the issue - unfortunately it wasn't.

Any ideas on what I can try next? Do HomeGroups mean anything to Windows Server 2012? The laptop is connecting via wireless to my ADSL router while the MicroServer is cabled in.

Thanks.

I managed to figure it out. The laptop was connecting via a wireless access point that was on a different subnet to what the ADSL router was on. Making sure that they were both on the same subnet fixed the problem (i.e: AP: 192.168.1.2, ADSL Router: 192.168.1.1. The AP was previously 192.168.2.1).
