Should I go ahead and install a Geyser Smart Switch at around R3K plus Installation Cost? OR Should I wait for the installation as promised by Eskom .... probably phased over 3 years ? Will I qualify for a Free Installation as a "lower middle class" citizen ??? ....... a Pensioner of 81 years living on R25K pm from an investment of R1.6m.

First up, a smart switch should be closer to R500.

Secondly, what do the other questions have to do with a geyser timer?
Thanks - R3K is the prices I found on the Interenet. I"ll delve deeper. There is a Smart Switch installation program coming up with subsidies for certain categories of consumers

R3k for a geyser switch.

Someone is getting rich quick or they have no business.
The switch I refer to is Smart Switch working with wifi and controls the geyser from whrever you are.

Thank you !!! I'll have to discuss this with an electrician .... I'm not allowed to "fiddle" with the system ... I do not own the property.

Is it worth getting geyserwise over one of these?
That depends on what you want to achieve. If it's just to set the time when the geyser is running then no. If you want to integrate into a solar setup in order to store excess pv, then yes.

Thanks. I know with geyserwise you can set the temperature lower than what the geyser heats up to. Would there be a saving to justify the additional cost? Im still undecided on solar, so havent made a decision yet.

If you want a lower geyser temp you can just turn down the thermostat. It is doing this dynamically where the automation helps.

Quite honestly geyserwise (unless it’s controlling solar vs grid) is pretty useless and makes very little real difference over a normal timer setup.

It entirely replaces your thermostat which is why it alllows that level of control.

geyserwise controlls the hysteresis curve of the element ,cutting down on waste of power by heating correctly and being more accurate ,it also prevents excessive loss of water out of the t.p valve due to overtemp at the end of every mechanical heating session ,so i dont know how you can say its useless ,do you know more than the manufacturer somehow .a normal geyser can leak up to 10 ltrs of water per day on a mechanical thermostat thats roughly 2 full reheats over a month and probably 9 kw minimum ,sounds like a good deal to me and the hundreds that ive installed since 2009

Or you can just turn the thermostat down a touch?
