Geyser Smart Switches

Just be careful to check the timer schedules on the replacement GeyserWise boards, didn’t realize this and the element came on this morning at 3am.
 
I just installed this SONOFF and I can monitor my geyser anywhere in the world
I can also monitor my daily and monthly usage and costing

Aha, you see. Your switch, and the equivalent CBI, don't allow for dynamic management of the geyser temp while the geyserwise does.

I've been using CBI for the last year or so and they have served me well but I'm going to need to upgrade my main geyser to geyserwise asap

My geyser has a little dial on it to manually set temp
Mine is set to around 55 degrees

Not very good at reading today, are you? Your temp you set manually and it stays there until you decide to get up in the roof (or wherever the geyser is) to change it. With the gesyerwise the thermostat temp is set over wifi and can be adjusted dynamically as desired based on solar availability, or any other factor you wish to use. It also gives you a current reading of the actual water temp, which is very useful when deciding on an early morning shower.

I haven't changed the geyser temp in 10 years when I dropped it from 70 to 55.

Yeah, it's not for everyone but I have a definite use case for the dynamic temp adjustment, as does @DrJohnZoidberg. At the moment the geyser temp drops due to the kids taking their evening showers, leaving the geyser to draw from battery to get back up to temp for my wife and I's morning showers. The first "problem" here is that we never know how warm the water is in the morning, as it depends on how much warm water the kids used the previous evening. Normally a 30 min top up is enough to get the water temp back, but sometimes they use more water then expected (or the ambient water temp is very low) and then we have a cold shower in the morning.

Then secondly, being able to push excess PV production to heat the geyser to a higher temp will require less battery to be used early morning.

The CBI doesn't solve either of the above two problems.

I switch off my geyser when I am away on weekends
Then geyser must work harder in colder weather as well
All in all my average is 30 units in summer months and 60 units in winter months.

Oh I never change the temp setting, no need to
My geyser is mounted vertically inside my flat in the scullery.

I've got both now, the CBI is just for power measurement as that's not something the Geyserwise does.

You're mad to spend R16k just for your geyser. Spend R16k on an inverter and PV and heat your geyser with that and also power your house. I see you already have a 2kW element so a 5kW (48V) inverter will be fine, can even have a 3kW (24V) if you do demand management.

Yes my 100l geyser has a 2kw element.
So if i plan accordingly and only use it during the day say 11am to 1pm to heat up when getting maximum solar it will be free.
Then the rest of the time while generating solar i can do some cooking or laundry etc
Thanx, I reckon the 5KW route is the way I should be going, future proof
Screw that DC Element idea
