Or you can just turn the thermostat down a touch?
that you can do ,your t.p valve releases water at 65.6 deg c ,so if you can keep your curve at the end of each cycle under that it wont leak .you can get a massive saving over a year by doing that ,thats one of the reasons why temp is critical on a geyser .one of the benefits of a geyserwise is maybe its extremely cold and you want really hot water you can set it at the controller easily instead of at the geyser .
 
Is it worth getting geyserwise over one of these?

If you just have one geyser and want to only switch it on and off, go with the CBI switch.

If you like me have a solar geyser and want to play around with more settings the Geyserwise is what you need and want.
 
geyserwise controlls the hysteresis curve of the element ,cutting down on waste of power by heating correctly and being more accurate ,it also prevents excessive loss of water out of the t.p valve due to overtemp at the end of every mechanical heating session ,so i dont know how you can say its useless ,do you know more than the manufacturer somehow .a normal geyser can leak up to 10 ltrs of water per day on a mechanical thermostat thats roughly 2 full reheats over a month and probably 9 kw minimum ,sounds like a good deal to me and the hundreds that ive installed since 2009
I was looking purely at saving energy which is their main claim to fame, not all the stuff you mentioned which I don't think is applicable to every model they sell.

Their primary thing is that the thermostat is "intelligent" by letting the temperate drop by 5 degrees before turning it back on but monitoring this back to back with simply using a thermostat it really made little to no difference on a monthly average.

Their power supplies also **** the bed if you just so much at look at them and then you can't find a replacement anywhere over a weekend or public holiday.

Far more useful is simply running the geyser for as many hours as you need in the day...then it can never spend more than you want it to spend.

Also, the manufacturer of something is the absolute last person you should believe because they will tell you anything to sell you more units.

Again if you need it to control your solar installation then by all means it's a useful product, if you only want it for timing your geyser and being able to easily turn it on and off then a R500 smart switch is far better value with more control.
 
Quite honestly geyserwise (unless it’s controlling solar vs grid) is pretty useless and makes very little real difference over a normal timer setup.

It entirely replaces your thermostat which is why it alllows that level of control.
I kind of disagree * not that you wrong in your assessment but just having the temp display helps you change your usage patterns so that can lead to a bit more in saving (more so then a normal timer IMHO) of course user dependent
the IOT geyser wise version does help a bit if you want to go more into routines

I have a much simpler approach.

If you know you need water by X hour of the day you time it accordingly and you can never use more than you've set it up to run for.

3 kW element x 2 hours a day can never use more than 6kW.

And you can easily build routines outside of that time to say if it's triggered outside of the normal run time to automatically shut off after 1 hour etc further mitigating any extra expense.

But if you really want temperature monitoring it's also easy to add for very little money. I have it on mine and it sees very little use because I know before 12:00 in the morning when it turns on it will be cold, considering it would have last run 18:00 the day before.

It's far more useful to simply know your habits and plan accordingly and it being a smart switch you can easily turn it on and off outside of that if you need to.

like I said you not wrong- just a display of temp can help you say in some cases oh its 40C I can actually just take a shower and not need to warm up 10 odd degrees to 50

but its all user dependent at the end of the day
 
Overpriced timers (geyser wise) is a waste of money imo if only using it as a timer

It takes x amount of energy to heat water by y degrees no fancy timer changes that

I think people install this **** because they want to save

A change of mindset happens and seeing readings causes a lifestyle change and they save

Then they claim this **** saved power when the lifestyle change did most of the heavy lifting and maybe a slight temp reduction

It is simple if you overflow drips regularly you have temp to high

Setting it a bit lower helps save a bit as heat loss is like battery charging. If you have a bigger differential stuff happens quicker

Ie heat losses are more at 60-65 than at 55

Don't waste your money on this **** if you want to use it just as a timer

Sure if you have a solar collector then you need it other than that it is just fluff

Is the standard use case here to run geyser to max temp when PV is at peak and then just maintain a certain temp thereafter?
I'm looking for something without home assistant (for now).

My plan is to dynamically set the temperature based on available PV, basically using the geyser as a battery (energy store). I'd probably start on 55 degrees and then if there is additional PV available later in the day (once batteries are full etc) bump that extra power into the geyser. I'll then need to use less battery for the early morning geyser top up to probably 50 degrees

the best is forget the temp untill you see where your p.t valve is releasing and start from there ,your regulator also plays a part but will exhaust at 90deg c or at whatever pressure the system is designed for ,200…400…600 kpa ,p.t valve is just under 66 deg c ,also depends on vertical or horizontal ,p.t mustnt drip under normal conditions if set properly .
 
Is anyone using the geyserwise smart controller with home assistant? It says it’s a Tuya device so I’m hoping it just works with the rest of my Tuya stuff.

Looks good. Website says it works with MAX and TSE though. So not compatable with Delta T or is that in the works?

ya kind of the way i have it set up set a routine to run during the day you set the geyser wise temps a degree or so higher then what you need (so 66) then set a routine on the Tuya app to basically switch on between 0900 to 1530 when the geyser temp drops < 51C (so you would set this at <56/55) and off when over >64C - i have a second geyser so that has those plus the added instruction to go off when the main geyser comes on so as long as there is internet it will monitor itself
