Hi guys

I have a quick question. I'm using a Gigabyte 1GB GDDR5 gfx card, with 4GB ram and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I'm fairly an idiot when it comes to the inside workings of a PC. However, the fan of the gfx card makes some sort of noise, which I'm assuming is it keeping the system cool. Is there a specific noise it should be making, or should not be making.

Regards

If your case doesn't have a "warranty void" seal that would be be broken when you open up the side panel of your case, then I'd suggest that you open it up and check what is wrong.

Funny noises could happen when the fan's power cable gets in the fan's way.

You can also get funny noises from the fan when its bearings are worn out. This usually takes a few years, unless you've maxed out your fan speed 24/7.

Your fan could also become very noisy when the heatsink is clogged with dust, in which case you should clean it with either a vacuum cleaner or better yet: an air blower.

thanks man. I have no experience and I'm too afraid to attempt to open up the casing. Is there any other way to clean or check if its dirty or dusty?

it should be making a shhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound, if it makes a glackglackglackglackglack or a hunnanahunnanahunnana sound then there might be something wrong :D

+1

Fan noises are generally caused by wires coming into contact with the blade. I'm assuming this is the noise you are hearing but to be safe(in case of a overheating card and the noise being caused by high RPM) download this and post the temperatures for your card here. Just make sure there is no warranty sticker on your PC before opening it.

Just open up the case. You have nothing to be afraid of if your case does not have a "warranty void" seal preventing you from opening it!

The only things that you should be careful with is static electricity and opening up a CRT screen or PSU.

With regards to static electricity, make sure that your PSU has its power cord plugged in the wall, but it does not have to be switched on.
Then simply touch the case or a metalic piece of the case so that you ground yourself to remove excess static electricity. Once you've done this you can pretty much touch any component inside the case without damaging it.

Usually this isn't necessary, because you don't need to touch any components, since you'll just be inspecting the components visually...

It doesn't make a clicking sound, but more just that shhhhhh sound. It sounded really loud, but this was after I installed F1 2011. Basically it was upgraded by a buddy of mine, who indicated that it's normal. The gfx card is brand new along with the optical drive. Mobo, ram from my old pc. As said Its not making a clicking noise, but that shhhhhh sound at what initially sounded like a high rpm, but this was while the game was installing.

The graphics card shouldn't make any noise when simply installing a game, unless the installation used 3D rendering functions during the installation, instead of simply playing mp4 video files.

Yeh I'm certain I saw something along the lines of 3D rendering. Hmmm, is this part of the installation of all games , and is there a way to bypass?
