Ok so I bought a secondhand 3 week old MSI 4890 OC for my GFs pc. Now I have been battling with it for the last hour or so. The installation only took about 10 min and was super easy. Now when I start the pc up everything runs fine and it goes into window for 2-3 minutes and then BSOD and restarts. I have tried to reseat it and used different power cables for the card...? Any suggestions for a possible solutions?

PSU is NOT the problem...trust me. 750W quad silencer Pc power and cooling. I think it may be overheating althought the fans are spinning....

Try safe mode and then uninstall all the display related driver/softwares and try boot into normal again.

It seems something is conflicting in windows system? (not hardwares)

Googled the BSOD error code?
Its too quick....it flashes basically and then restarts...

That may be the case...how do I boot into safe mode again ..? (yes Im noobish at times:o)

F8 when it says starting windows. Also, try disable auto system restart so that the BSOD stays there. Try look in the eventlogs too....

Thanks managed to get into safe mode...I don't however see any remaining drivers under display drivers in device manager...? What else can I try....?

Right click my computer, properties, Advanced, Startup and recovery, settings, unitick Automatically Restart, and then google the BSOD error, or post it here.

You can try look for a tool that fully removes old display drivers (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) which is most likely the problem....

Looked in events viewer...this is what it states:
The TCP/IP Netbios helper service depends on the AFD service which failed to start because of the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning

Actually there are a whole bunch of errors in the events viewer all along similar lines as the one above. In safe mode the computer did however not restart once. I ran driversweeper and clean out the old Nvidia and Physx drivers but it still restarts the moment it enters windows normally...any other ideas...?

Ok BSOD states:
An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory
Then some BLA BLAH BLAH
Then check if hardware is correctly installed...and ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue disable or remove newly installed hardware/software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode press F8.
Technical info:
*** STOP: 0X000000FC (0XB798FC40, 0X49891963 , 0XB798FB7C, 0X00000001)

And im using XP SP2

Run autoruns from www.sysinternals.com, and disable all the startup options. If it then starts OK, reenalbe them until it fails again....

What is the BSOD error?

Ok so I installed the ATI drivers for the card while in safe mode and then restarted the computer. So far it has not restarted but keepson telling me that windows has recovered from a serious error (so bad in fact that the report was corrupted which is apparently rare...if you believe MS).

As for the BSOD...all it said was as I posted in the above post. No actual error code as such.
