Gigabyte X58 mobo.. Can't wait

Gigabyte is going to launch its new GA-EX58-Extreme motheboard powered by Intel X58 chipset. The GA-EX58-Extreme supports socket LGA1366 processors which means Core i7 XE 965, 940 and 920. The motheboard also sports six triple-channel enabled DDR3 slots and three PCI-E x16 slots.



The GA-EX58-Extreme uses an Ultra Durable 3 technology, hence the 12-phase power design. The board also employs a Clear, Power and Reset CMOS buttons.

7.1 channel audio

What are triple channel DDR slots?

It means that, if you have DDR modules installed in a multiple of 3, then there are three channels of data communication between the RAM and CPU (effectively tripling the bus width between the CPU and RAM).
 
I'm guessing that these mobo's also support SLI,

not yet, still needs to be approved.

Any X58 motherboard maker can submit their board for certification, which will be done by NVIDIA. If the board passes, and the motherboard manufacturer agrees to pay a certification fee (NVIDIA would not reveal how much), then the board is certified and NVIDIA provides the board manufacturer with a key to place in its BIOS.

When you install the NVIDIA drivers, they check for the presence of this key in the BIOS - if it’s found, then you get the ability to enable SLI, natively, on X58. Note that this won’t work on any other Intel chipsets, just X58 for Nehalem owners this fall.

This is absolutely huge because it does mean that with the right motherboard you can now have both CrossFire and SLI support, without resorting to an OEM system or something more exotic like Skulltrail. Below are the supported configurations:

Sahara have the Intel® Core™ i7 processor "Smack Over" Extreme Edition mobo for 3.5k+ :eek:
 
I won't recommend Gigabyte anymore. They are the only stupid damn boards that ever give me problems when the memory speed is too fast. Such as DDR1066 on a Gigabyte board with a std non over-clocked processor usually gives BSOD's with windows. Then you downclock the memory to 800 and it works fine. Rectron loves to give the excuse that the memory is too fast for the processor bla bla bla. But I've only ever had the problem (A few times) with Gigabyte boards.

maybe it's the northbridge?
 
Yeah ... problem only rears when u try run or install windows. And I could never get it working without downclocking mem ... not even bios update. I've never had the problem with Asus though :p
