Girlfriend pregnant while using the injection contraceptive method

Folks, while this may be a joke to some consider this.

What if you already have kids and choose this method of contraception? Why did it fail?

As a father of 2, I don't want another one but by all means it's not going to stop our sex life so effective contraception is needed. There are a number of options but was under impression this is one of the safest too?

Worst nightmare this.

Luckily my gf (on the pill) is pro choice and we have already decided the correct plan of action if something were to happen. Communication in relationships is important, even about this kind of stuff. You gotta know where you stand.

Spoken to my buddy about this and she isn't Pro at all :(.
Thus even with birth control, a condom is still compulsory.

Also keep in mind that while you have a plan in place, she can always change her mind mate... Things change when it's actually happening to her.

AFAIK the injection method does stop your period and you need to use a hormone pill once a month to force it. Maybe that's the issue OP is having.

Hi,
I'm 22yrs and my girlfriend is 19. She is using the injection prevention method and had her period for almost a month so yesterday I took her to the doc to get it checked out... The doc said it's because her system is not used to this prevention method then did the tests.

The doc revealed that she's pregnant. we were both shocked and couldn't even ask a single question. .

What are the effects cos she took the injection for the 2nd time being pregnant(without realising)?
What are the other things that we should focus on more on the health side?

Gz man.

Taking the one after she was already pregnant should not affect her. It's a hormone. Just stop using it now.

The injection method is normally pretty reliable, but not as reliable as IUDs. What you probably did is not wait long enough before starting to have sex after she got the injection. You need to wait at least 2 weeks because it can only prevent the next ovulation, not one that is already occurring.

<-Thanks his lucky stars he isn't a father yet!

We were just shocked and didn't ask anything, we just left. However, the doc said about 30% become pregnant within the first year of prevention

Let's assume the baby....embryo....

OP, have you considered asking the doctor this question? Or did he give you an answer and you are hoping we'll give a different one?

As far as I remember, with NURI, when you take the injection for the 1st time, and 2nd time, it doesn't stop your periods. They just become irregular (ie, come 3 weeks non-stop, then you spot in the 4th week then they stop for 2 months or for good)

Chances are they didn't wait for 2 weeks after her 1st injection. They just hopped into bed and now must suffer the consequences.
Another option is, she probably took anti-biotics at some point during that 8 week period (i'm assuming she used NURI) and it somehow affected her periods.

WRT the pregnancy, the baby wont be affected

Antibiotics pretty much renders the injection null and void for a few weeks. So if she's under treatment for any illness then its better to use an additional form of protection until all's well.

The snip is the best thing I've done. My wife was on the injection for five years and it was messing up her system - as she put it. So I bit the bullet and took one for the team

No complications, not one? No weight gain? These are tales that people whisper when you're scared and alone and considering the snip so just asking.
