GitHub to replace "master" with alternative term to avoid slavery references

What are we going to call Scrum Master now?

Scrum Mistress?

EDIT: Even worse, I juts realised the word "scrum" is problematic.

Scrum is a term coming from rugby, a colonial sport of abuse invented by the British to keep their colonies in check. Its built purely on the aggression of toxic masculinity.

I think Scrum Master should henceforth be Hug Mistress. Even people who identify as men should be Hug Mistresses. If they don't like being called a Mistress it is because of their own fragile masculinity.

Don't forget the outfit

That sounds a lot to me like racist terms being fine if they're not intended to offend.

You guys are over-analysing the issue. If plausibly racist terms upset some people, and using alternative terms requires barely lifting a finger, then why not just do so. It doesn't need a supporting academic paper - it's just being considerate of others.

The problem is that the list of things to be offended by is infinite. Ban/Censor/Remove/Rename one and the offended parties simply move onto the next.

At some point you need to draw a line and direct these loony people to a pychiatrist to sort out their issues.

I remember a few years back some woke techies called for the terms master/slave in software to be dropped.

That's right boys: we're now offended by Mongo instances.
I blame Paul Vixie

Next up, Black Magic / White Magic

Whitelist / Blacklist

White Hat / Black Hate

I get that they want to rename master and slave to primary and secondary, but renaming whitelist and blacklist... Somewhere primary and secondary will also become an issue due to the use in social hierarchies, you know, supremacy.

Come to think about this, will The Blacklist series also be renamed? The Deny List, The Exclude List, The Greylist?
The shade list:sneaky:

I think the way that pages are numbered is offensive.

Page 1 implies it is better than Page 2. Meritocracies are offensive and outdated. It should not be possible to rank pages, implying one is better than the other.

Pages should be named after black feminists.

Also, white ink on black pages from now on to reflect the true demographics of South Africa..

Stop refering to us as "you", we want to be called Legios..

I'm in no position to tell black people whether something should or shouldn't offend them. If there is a preference for not using terms like master and slave, then fine. Why make a thing about it.

I don't even think black people care as much as wealthy white non binary neo "progressive" kids getting brainfarts in front of their computers when they feel anxiety after their mom told them to take the garbage out.

These people are in no position to tell the world to change with them. So sod off.
