But it is specific to people of colour for large chunks of history in various parts of the world. And slavery hasn't been much a problem for white people.

Why are most of you people so triggered by such a small request? It doesn't need to be supported by a doctoral thesis. Master vs. slave isn't a nice metaphor. If people would like it changed, Jesus who cares. Just chuck it then.

The fact remains, slavery existed. Even if you removed the word from the dictionary, you aren't removing the fact that slavery was practiced. It is part of history. Why are the snowflakes so against the word and its use?

Because it's gone beyond the point of being ridiculous and it's not black peoples asking for this.The BLM movement is now milking it.

Yes, it's a small request but it's also an idiotic request and should be treated as such.
 
Suggestions for renaming the Movie, Master and Commander.

Be what the hell you are, if you are born a pigeon, you cant change and become a tiger.
 
This reminds me of when the word master was also banned at Harvard a few years back for this same reason.

They explained that "master" is derived from the Latin term "magister" which is an ancient latin term for teacher. But protesters argued that whatever its original derivation, the word now has connotations of slavery so Harvard just gave in and changed master to dean.

They're probably gonna ban Star Wars, Frankenstein and Dracula next for having these racist words
 
My ancestors from Ireland were shipped all over the world as slaves. I couldn't give a flying ****.
My chip does not exist.

Yes, because their voices are popular at the moment, and they have public opinion on their side, also supported by the media. This is their best opportunity to call on change (or redress). Remember, this isn’t only black people, their ‘allies’ are also calling on changes.

You know, white silence = violence, best to throw your requests into the hat as well whilst you still an ally :thumbsup:

BBBEE/AA here is also gaining popular support. The youth is waking up, white and black, and have realised that people are listening to them.

I have my own views, but all I want to know is, all these suggested changes and abolishment, with what will it ultimately be replaced with?

Look, master and slave, whatever, not important to me.

I'm more concerned that we are now looking through our entire cultural history and purging anything that is wrongthink by today's standards.

There are no shades of gray anymore. There is no accepting for the fact that moral values change.

There is also no acceptance of the irony of the situation, which is that future generations, with the same moral relativity, might find these very actions outrageous and scandalous.

There is only I WANT. IT OFFENDS ME. TAKE IT AWAY. ME ME ME.

That's all our culture can do these days. We had better scrub away all memory of Shakespeare because I tell you we aren't creating a new one any time soon.

Who determines today's standards, who determines tomorrow's standards?

The world, well, parts are undergoing a change management process. A shortened sequence due to public pressure. It is a revolution in a modern-day world.
 
Ridiculous. Going to have to seal everyone's lips, gouge out their eyes, stuff their ears as to avoid offending anyone. We all going to be deaf, mute, and blind. Then just in case we will burn the history books and ban the truth. **** all you snowflakes, get over yourself.
