Hey guys, not sure if this is the right area to post this, sorry in advance if its not.

I have just signed up to Gmail and was wondering is it possible to send and recieve email via my MS Outlook, kinda like having a POP3?

If so, how does one go about doing this? (ie: incoming and outgoing settings etc?

Thank you

yeah, it works great. haven't needed to log onto gmail online for a couple years...everything is handled by outlook.

Anybody figured out how to sync your contacts between Outlook and Gmail? I imported from Gmail to Outlook but would prefer a sync so that any new outlook contacts are also available in Gmail.

export them as CSV from outlook and import to Gmail. Easy peasy.

you can only sync calenders not contact--I am sure once "cloud" computing kicks in big time--this will become available--but then who needs local clients?

BTW--why do you want to use Outlook interface instead of the Gmail web interface--you are denying yourself some real advantage; just a thought.

You can also set up your gmail to use IMAP in Outlook instead of POP3. This actually works better because it doesn't try to download all your mail to your local PC. POP3 has always been somewhat messy , especially once you start reading your mail on multiple computers...then some mails downloads some don't, some are deleted some aren't...

AND..most important of all is your "SENT" mail...with PoP3 this remains local and never gets uploaded to your online gmail (unless you do it manually)... If you sent via imap/web it is actually available on your account online. So 6 months later you can actually search on gmail and find your own mail....

Here is how to set it up in Outlook

Simple, by using Outlook you have access to your mailbox when you're not connected, which is important for me.
