I have not been able to access my GMail account today at all. I keep getting the error below when I log in. Anyone else having the same problem, getting the same error?

"Temporary Error (502)
We're sorry, but your Google Mail account is currently experiencing errors. You won't be able to use your account while these errors last, but don't worry, your account data and messages are safe. Our engineers are working to resolve this issue."

I'm on it right now. And I just refreshed my inbox.

I guess it's just maintenance on their part. Try again in an hour or so.

Gmail is working fine for me today, yesterday I got some error but I just logged out and back it and everything was fine.

use https instead of http

If you're seeing a 'Temporary Error (502)' message when you try to sign in to Gmail, it means that your mail is temporarily unavailable. These errors generally resolve themselves within a few minutes, so please wait a bit before trying to log in again. Please note that while Gmail is inaccessible, your messages and personal information are safe.

If you continue to see this error over an extended period of time, please let us know so we can look into the issue.

Yeah, I know what it means since I've read about 20 websites regarding the issue. The problem is that I've had this error for 10 hours without change. I rely a lot on GMail so this is frustrating.

Try rebooting your router, or disconnecting/reconnecting your internet connection.

Try logging in via your cellphone in the mean time.
I cleared my cache and cookies, since a corrupt GMail cookie could have caused it, yet that didn't solve the problem.
Changed DNS servers, no change.
Tried to access my GMail account from different computers, no change.
Logged in from cellphone, no change - but at least this proves that it's the GMail account itself that's down, instead of a problem on my computer etc.

I guess I'll have to wait it out or contact GMail support. Grrrr

Since this morning I keep getting logged out of Gmail, I also got that error a few times, but most of the time it just logs out without any error.

I posted the problem on the Google Group's GMail forum. With Gmail's upgrade of the "My Contacts/Suggested Contacts" functionality a subset of users were left with the 502 error for most of 16 July. It has been fixed since. I don't have any problems logging in at the moment.

I got the error last night, fortunately i have 2 gmail accounts. The one worked, the other didn't. Anyhow, this morning it's working again. So give it time.

I got that error last night, maybe one of Googles 1000000....000000 hardrives went down and our mail boxes where on that particular one.

What are the odds?

Many of you had trouble accessing Gmail for a couple of hours this afternoon, and we're really sorry. The issue was caused by a temporary outage in our contacts system that was preventing Gmail from loading properly. Everything should be back to normal by the time you read this.

We heard loud and clear today how much people care about their Gmail accounts. We followed all the emails to our support team and user group, we fielded phone calls from Google Apps customers and friends, and we saw the many Twitter posts. (We also heard from plenty of Googlers, who use Gmail for company email.) We never take for granted the commitment we've made to running an email service that you can count on.

We've identified the source of this issue and fixed it. In addition, as with all issues that affect Gmail and our other services, we're conducting a full review of what went wrong and moving quickly to update our internal systems and procedures accordingly. We don't usually post about problems like this on our blog, but we wanted to make an exception in this case since so many people were impacted. In general, though, if you spot a problem with your Gmail account, please visit the Gmail Help Center and user group, where the Gmail Guides are your fastest source of updates.

Again, we're sorry.

I tried accessing my account via my cellphone on m.gmail.com and it worked fine. Anyway, it was working fine on my PC in the morning. :)

I suddenly realised how much I rely on Gmail and that have all my mail online is rather worrying if it's not accessible or if Gmail has a problem. :(

Time to download all 2416 MB's of my account. :D

Gmail = my life

Gmail down = my life down

Gmail, hmmm would that make a good name for my future child ;)

Whenever a lot of GMail users get the 502 error when they try to login, the GMail team posts an Announcement on the GMail Google Group Announcement and Alerts page.

As you will see from that list, the 502 error unfortunately occurs quite often and I've been affected by it in the past as well. It's never all the users, just certain subsets. Anyway, just visit that URL next time it happens for an update as to when the problem will be fixed.
