Gmail outage

Its was down for about 3 hours from about midday to 14:45
Only the web-client was down, the POP servers were working, not sure about IMAP.

Least they got it back quickly.

Nothing to see here, move along.

The POP and IMAP servers were working from my side, just the web interface that was down.

I know the official word is that gmail's been having problems today, but has anyone else noticed any erratic gmail/google workings over the past week and a half...?
At our office location for the last week or so, gmail constantly just fails - saying its lost connection and will rerty, and you're lucky if you get a connection again...
And then google also gives issues - every now and again a search result screen just cannot be displayed; refresh and all is fine again...
yet everything else works - normal internet, gtalk, etc... (also tried with IE, Firefox, Chrome, cleared cookies etc - same diffs).
So i dunno... might be that something big is going on? specially since google techs dont know what is the cause.

Have been getting a 'we are experiencing technical difficulties' error message in gmail for over a week....:(

One thing I can say about Gmail is that on a normal uncapped, shaped TelkomInternet account, for some reason, checking for mail using Gmail's POP3/IMAP servers goes PATHETICALLY slowly. It's probably the only thing that really just doesn't seem to work on a SAIX account... wonder why :/ Would be really awesome if Google set up some kind of AKAMAI mirror or something... but that would be tough for a millions-of-users application such as that. ah well we'll see what the future holds i guess

My colleague at work has this today, couldn't stay stably in with Chrome, IE of FF. When he did get in, things were too pathetically slow and jerky to use.

Wonder what caused this outage?

GMail is bad? Try Telkom!

Telkom subscribers have not been able to access e-mail since Sunday night. Without warning users, Telkom changed over from an old server to a new one – and now users’ passwords and user names are not recognised by the server!

A call to tech support at 5am today brought “news” that “The server was running yesterday (Tuesday 24 Feb) from 10am to 4pm, then it went down again”. Apparently not – unless only certain users received mail during that time.

Telkom is not communicating with its users at all, and waiting times for them to answer their phones continues to grow and annoy! Can someone who has a contact at Telkom find out what is really happening and when it’s going to be fixed? According to Telkom’s call centre, “It should be fixed today”. That was said on Monday, Tuesday and now Wednesday . . .

I can send mail from my account but cannot receive any. Wouldn’t this be costing those of us who run businesses a fortune?? I now have a .lice.com account - but Neotel's looking good!

Could this possibly be because Telkom is switching servers? Aren't we all ultimately at their mercy?
